DanielC
I have a A87 "peanut" head that came off a L-18. A project truck, started by somebody else. Engine had low compression #2. Some leakage into #3. Bottom of the head was machined, the top was not. The edge of #2 exhaust valve was slightly bent. Rear of the head measures 4.206/4.208 by back head bolts. Front of the head measures 4.211/4.202 by front head bolts. Center of head measures 4.227/4.221 by center two head bolts. My understanding is the heads are around 4.248 stock. Yes, the camshaft was binding, until the cam towers were loosened up. Can this head be salvaged? I probably will need the "head saver shims", if they are still available. Quote Link to comment
Silky_Johnson
I have an extra set of .015'' cam tower shims in Gladstone if you want them. $20? Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
It can be salvaged, but it may not be WORTH salvaging right now. If you can get another head for less than the cost of the work... The top will need to be milled. Bottom too, if it was leaking after it was milled. It's warped, which is probably why the cam was binding. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
That thing is a "rainbow".Stock numbers were 4.262.I have one if needed.Tower shims change rocker geometry. Not a good idea. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just use larger lash pads. But I don't think this will save it. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
There's about 37 pounds with cam, springs, rockers and valves. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Thanks for the replies, and offers! The head also needs a valve job. I am thinking the head may be salvageable, but it would cost more than getting another head. Quote Link to comment
