Garage Find: 1978 Datsun B210 resto project

Recommended Posts

Picked this baby up back in October for $200 from my cousins garage. This is the first car I've ever owned.  All the following pictures are the steps on the road to restoration

This is how it was when i bought it 524031_4041214344349_758095825_n.jpg

At this point, we took the car in to get it safetied and surprisingly passed all structurally sound but with one brake pad a little worn down. So, my dad and I went out and bought some new pads and got the bloody thing safetied and road legal

Next came body work and I understate myself when I say there was much that needed to be done. The Datsun was an MPI writeoff due to a collision on the rear driver side quarter panel. In addition, just in front of the wheel well and just behind the wheel well were both rusted out and covered in a 1/2" thick coating of bondo that had to be removed and replaced. The wheel wells on both front fenders had to be repaired and the bottom third of the passenger side door just at the body line had to be replaced. 539764_4433345717207_1945493908_n.jpg

And then came body filling and sanding the car for painting... I never thought I'd live to see the day where i could breathe out dust. Cheap dust masks suck

And there were countless dents and scratches that also had to be filled521948_4433405718707_538363595_n.jpg529758_4433405238695_1986250219_n.jpg

I just met Mark and his dad tonight. Very cool guys.

Great job on the car Mark! Saving Datsuns in Manitoba is a challenge to say the least. And you have one of the sweetest around. AWESOME!

Good luck on the L20b swap!

Hey guys sorry its been a while. It's so awesome cruising around in it and having all that work appreciated and the car recognized for what it is haha. To answer your question graveltrapp yes I just got some minilites mounted and 185/60/14 slapped on those. Looks like gold hahaha just the way I dreamed. I'll post some pics when I get home (schools a pain sometimes) and I plan on doing that crazy strut chopping and whatnot sort of "coilovers" that datzenmike has a tutorial on. Not sure if anybody really knows what I'm talking about but I'll do that and get some lowering springs. I also plan on doing an l20b and standard transmission swap to give it a little more oomph.
