Callentezx
Doing some clean up on connectors and such, and I noticed I had two resistors, There is one on the strut tower below the coil and one on the firewall. Is that supposed to be there? And are they both for the ignition system? Thats the one on the firewall... And this is the one i had on the strut tower, They look different but i've seen the ones that are sold at Autozone and they look just like the firewall one. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The second one is an aftermarket or toyoda style. Since it is not connected, just throw it away. I've never seen any 4-plug head that used two reisistors. The 1974-1978 factory EI used a single resistor with 3 terminals. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
Good point. Callentezx, is your find on a Datsun? Or some other car? Quote Link to comment
Callentezx
Sorry, its on a 74 610 goon, with points ignition, if it matters. it was connected i just had it disconnected to clean up when i snapped that picture. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
A Datsun L-series engine with points ignition only needs one ballast resistor. Quote Link to comment
Callentezx
Hmm. I wonder how this came about being on the car. Which one should i keep? the firewall one, i guess? Looks like i'm gonna have to do some back tracing to see if both of them are even connected. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
If you have a point ignition and Someone put a lower ohm coil(usually a newer EI type coil) in there you need to add a ballast resisitor in series to the stock ballast. I run 2 ballast as I put a SUPER COIL in there. which is .7 ohms added a .85 ohm resister in series with the stock 1.6 ohm ballast so overall it comes out the same. if your points starts wearing out(burning up) alot fatser then you got a lower ohm coil(was added) and youll need to add the difference. if in dought just buy a stock coil for you model as the ballast you got near the coil looks stock and it should work Quote Link to comment
bonvo
strange cause the stock location for the balast resister is on the left strut tower not the fire wall but the one on the firewall looks like the stock one someone has been in there messing with your wires my friend Quote Link to comment
