ggzilla
1979 Datsun 210 5-speed is the dogleg pattern. 1980-1982 5-speeds are the regular pattern. But somebody might have swapped them. These are the mid-duty 60-series transmissions. 63-series 5-speed is the heavy-duty dogleg, very heavy, holds up well even behind supercharged A14s. Link to comment

You have to remember that the 79-80 year change was a blurry time! I have seen multiple 80 model year 210s with the 79 body on them(Mine Included). Link to comment

ggzilla
Yes, the B310 changed mid-1980. Early 1980s had round headlights, later 1980s had square headlights. 5-speed Details (for A-series engines) All B-210 5-speeds are 63-series. Only available 1976-1978 (1974 & 1975 USA models had no 5-speed option) 63-series 'big boy' 5-speed for A-series engine 63-series vs 60-series 5-speeds From the Nissan Factory repair manuals: * 1979 B310 5-speed: FS5W60L (dogleg shift) * 1980-1982 5-speed: FS5W60A (regular shift) 60A vs 60L 5-speed Tranmissions for A-series Engine My guess is this: 1. They needed a 5-speed for USA fuel economy. The B110 5-speed was too light for the A14 engine. So they modifed the the 63-series normally used behind the L-engine to fit the A-engine 2. By 1979 they had a new mid-weight 5-speed ready (60L) 3. There were problems with the 60L they quickly modified it into the 60A. The fifth-gear location and mechanical design is quite different... just a guess. Link to comment
Pumpkn210
I am not sure what dogleg tran it is. Icehouse still has it:mad: I was just saying that it was a dogleg. I have found it hard to find a non dog 5 for my car. And am ending up buying a 79.5 goon to swap it from! Link to comment
ggzilla
A 'dogleg' transmission has this shift pattern: The regular shift pattern has reverse under fifth. Link to comment
