LAYEDOUTB2K
the alternator isnt working in my 72 1200. i noticed the voltage regulator is exactly the same in my 72 510 and noticed the wires going into the alternator is the same colors and plugs. the body of the alternator looks a little bit diferent between the 2. does anyone know if itll just swap over because my dad has a few 510 alts layin around. datzenmike
I would try it. Often the same parts are used in cars and trucks of the same year sometimes for several years. Why invent something all over again? Quote Link to comment
Burabuda
it'll be on the opposite side of the block, but it shouldn't mind too much more amps doesn't hurt in fact, most auto parts stores have subbed datsun alternators to one part # Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Datsun 510 1968-1971 and Datsun 1200 used the very same alternator: 35 Amp Hitachi, small and light. Most other Datsuns used a different alternator. The voltage regulator is somehow different, but if the plug fits, I'd use it. Details: Datsun 1200 Alternator Interchange Quote Link to comment
LAYEDOUTB2K
thanks. that was a lot of help. i didnt go searching through my dads boxes of 510 parts because my friend had a 76 620 parts truck and stuck the alt on after seeing that interchange and its workin perfect. the voltage regulators are the same. i matched the numbers across my 510 and my 1200 and then i saw this voltage regulator it says same part number as 68-73 510 Quote Link to comment
