flatcat19
Yeah. Tighten it. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
If it's tight, check for cracking and/or dry rotted material. Probably just loose to be honest. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
if its loose to loose they get nice and shiny. try getting a new one and tighten it. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
If it is already tight you might have a bearing going out in your alternator or water pump. Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
you could alwasy take the belt off and try to spin the water pump and the alternator and see if soemthing is getting hard to turn. Quote Link to comment

The bearing can squeal also, either way it's not always just a loose belt. :) Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
If the bearing in the water pump, alternator, goes bad, it's more of a drag than a good bearing. The dragging pully ends up using the belt as a clutch. The more load on the device, the easier it is for the belt to break loose and squeal. Plus, if the bearing is going bad the pulley will end up out of alignment and that too can make it squeal, though that eventually tears up the belt sides. Sometimes. Usually the component breaks first, like when my power steering idler pulley siezed on the freeway. Belt bits everywhere. Had all of 2 seconds warning before the belt came off and wrapped around the crank pulley, ripping the alternator belt off too. Tow truck time... Quote Link to comment
