Temp/fuel gauge working yesterday, not today

Just got done swapping an L20 into my 73 620, fired it up, dialed everything in, took for a short test drive. Everything is working as it should. Headlights, parking, oil/charge/brake, dash, turn signal lights all work, temp and fuel gauges work. Bring it home, top off the oil and coolant, lock her up for the night.

Fast forward to this morning. Fire up the truck to head off to work.......temp/fuel gauges not working. ALL other lights stated earlier are still working. I'm thinking voltage regulator since the fuses are good and everything else is working.

My question is, would the voltage regulator just die that suddenly? I've never had any issues with it before. Is there anything I can check before pulling my gauge cluster out?
