Drummerboy4as Posted September 3, 2012 Report Share Posted September 3, 2012 Just got done swapping an L20 into my 73 620, fired it up, dialed everything in, took for a short test drive. Everything is working as it should. Headlights, parking, oil/charge/brake, dash, turn signal lights all work, temp and fuel gauges work. Bring it home, top off the oil and coolant, lock her up for the night. Fast forward to this morning. Fire up the truck to head off to work.......temp/fuel gauges not working. ALL other lights stated earlier are still working. I'm thinking voltage regulator since the fuses are good and everything else is working. My question is, would the voltage regulator just die that suddenly? I've never had any issues with it before. Is there anything I can check before pulling my gauge cluster out? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted September 3, 2012 Report Share Posted September 3, 2012 I believe the 620 has a large round 12 pin connector on the back of the gauge cluster. I think with some effort you can reach up in there and unplug it and plug back in. This will clean the connections and might get it back working. Quote Link to comment

I checked rock auto and they didn't list anything. It's integrated with the temp gauge correct? Is there a way to check the reg once it's out? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted September 3, 2012 Report Share Posted September 3, 2012 Forgot I had this... Volt regulator on the 620 is built into the TEMP gauge. Contact just needs cleaning or possibly the connection to the gauge cluster is loose?. The 521 uses a plug in module on the back of the cluster. Quote Link to comment

Checked the fuse panel, battery connections, grounds, and any other connections I may have messed with recently. Nothing was out of the ordinary, except that it works now :D I'm really hoping its not an intermittent problem....I really hate intermittent problems :/ Quote Link to comment
