I put a ZX 5 speed in my wagon with the l16, the difference in the gearing is actually better for around town. I don't know that I've experienced any difference in the acceleration (probably due to the fact that there was no acceleration to begin with), but it's much more drivable. The advantage to the 5th gear is lower rpms on the freeway (60 mph+). Your eardrums and gas mileage will thank you.

In order to put it in you will need to modify/purchase the transmission crossmember, shorten the drive shaft, and elongate the hole in the transmission tunnel by about 3 inches.

I'll go with door number two Bob.... Yes it bolts right on. Use your clutch and flywheel and release bearing collar that on your L16 right now. this thing...

Releasebearingcollarwithbearing.jpg By all means put a new bearing on but keep the collar.

The 280z 5 speed is a good choice and the first 3 gears are very close to the stock 4 speed.
