81sunnyson
i come from a domestic v8 background so hopping up datsuns is new to me i was too young and had minimal allowance and ice cream truck stash to tune my mom's 510 and b210 wagon like chevy's and ford... a lot of parts are interchangeable as far as the a series, i read about guys swaping stuff for example a14 head on a12 block or a15 block i read somewhere you could put L16 valves in A14 head or an L20 cam in an A15 anybody tinker with parts enough to know parts interchange numbers? links or forum posts? ggzilla
What you listed is all true except the L cam won't fit an A engine. The best engine combo is A12GX head & camshaft on A15 shortblock. But it will be a high-revving engine, so be sure to not shift until 6600 RPM. Otherwise a stock 1979-1980 A15 is the most reliable, easy to drive engine. The 1981-1982 engines are down on power but an even better choice is you don't like to rev the engine up high and value fuel economy more than power. Of course if you want a 210 that will keep up with today's 200HP minivans, put the engine/transmission combo from a 1977-1979 200SX in your 210. It will have the same power to weight ratio of most of today's sedans/vans. And it is a bolt-in. Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
my axle donor was an 81 hatchback 200sx with a z20e with naps system ? and not sure trans but was a stick looks long though think it could work? bell housing? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
What does your axle question have to do with "a series parts interchange"? A-series is the engine. Quote Link to comment

81sunnyson
my spare motor has 13 cast into the block are A13 rare? hardly ever hear about them the previous owner is a shop teacher and his students were supposed to re-assemble the engine as a end of the semester project but he sold the car and lot of parts to me before they had a chance Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The A13 was only made for the 1974 model year, so yes it is relatively rare, but it's not as good as the common A14. Quote Link to comment

81sunnyson
cool the guy had a stash of cars and cobble together mine with the parts can i put an A14 or A15 crank in there? or destroke with A12 crank the head for that engine i believe is the spare block says 13.....N20X....G3A the head is H95...this is the one id like to build for the "turbo" or supercharger my running A15 has a new head ( but i need to check the valve lash etc) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
yes you can do all that. Or for maximum horsepower, just start with an A15. Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
well that motor was disassembled by the previous owner's shop class students , who put in the A15 so that is the better candidate well do i have 65hp or 85hp? dont know the year of the running A15 ...damn i cant see under manifold specs vary depending on whats site im looking at Quote Link to comment
