Happy Memorial Day

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised no one put up a thread, or maybe I missed it. Anyway, for all those who have served, are serving, or will serve in the U.S. military, thanks for your service and sacrifice. I'm going over to my good buddy's house in a second to bbq with his wife and kids. He did two tours in Fallujah and came back with all his toes and fingers, for which I am very grateful.

I had a WWII vet come into NAPA the other day, telling us how he was fighting at Pearl Harbor. Guy was still alive and articulate and didn't have any issues speaking. Truly amazing.

Ive been getting many thanks all day for being in the service. I just got out after six and a half years... its time to pass the torch on to my fellow service members. I know first hand what a sacrifice it is, so thank you for continuing to fight so that I no longer have to.

Amen to that!

Do you guys celebrate some sort of Memorial Day in Canada?

Yes Happy Memorial day.

Fired up the grill and had burgers.

I had/have some family members in the service. Mostly in the middle east. None have suffered any injuries or anything. Extremely grateful to them and anyone else who has served.

Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines alike, I thank you all.

Wait Coast Guard is considered military? jk

Them too. (puddle pirates)

We have Remembrance Day in November (your Veteran's Day) but that's more for those who didn't come home. There is a Memorial Day celebrated in Newfoundland/Labrador that is observed on Canada Day (July 1st) because this is also the date of the battle of the Somme July 1st 1916 where so many Newfoundlanders lost their lives. Why not in the rest of Canada? Well back in 1916 Newfoundland/Labrador wasn't a Canadian province and was still part of the British Empire so when Britain went to war in 1914, Newfoundland was automatically at war with Germany while the rest of Canada was not.
