Bluebooster
Judging by the pics, how much longer would you say I have until I need to refill it with oil? Not really ready to pull it out as I would of liked to replace the stock diff with a subie unit. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You're kidding right? Should have been filled yesterday and checked today. You're risking a crunched diff for want of an $8 side seal or $11 pinion seal. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Try the 510 Realm for ideas. R-180 seals may be the same. The Subie diff is made by the same people, the seals may be the same. Quote Link to comment
Bluebooster
So I ended up simply draining and refilling the diff. When I pulled the draing plug, it had collected a substantial amount of debris. Is what I collected typical? First time draining a 510 diff... Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Hmmm looks like I have the same issue... though my leak is not quite as bad. I should probably look into getting new seals and refilling it before the drive to Canby. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
That's not an uncommon amount... for a diff that hasn't had the oil changed in 200,000 miles. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
That's a typical amount of metal particles. Looks like a good diff, just keep it filled. The seals may leak very slowly, and take years to drain the oil. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
One of the causes of diff leaks is a plugged vent. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
on top of the dif towards the rear is a plastic sort of mushroom shaped straw thing pull it out be care full it is brittle now clean it out Quote Link to comment
