Any input would be good thanks guys

This all comes down to trust. If it was in a car you could start and drive it around and evaluate it. Right now it might as well be laying in the dirt of a wrecking yard. No way to know. Sorry but it's true. If you feel this guy is legit then maybe $400-$500 tops, I think $700 is a lot for the way it is.

Owners tend to remember only the good and how they went to all the work to take it out and save it and seldom can realize that it's really only worth a couple of hundred at best.

Ask the guy to help you give it a compression test. All you need is a battery and jumper cables (and the transmission bolted to the engine along with the starter).

If he's willing to do that, and the dry & wet compression tests are good, then $700 is reasonable.

Then start it, just need a gas can with hose to hook to the carburetor. It'll run 30 seconds with no water. If you don't hear any knocks it'd be good.

On the other hand, you can buy complete running cars & trucks for $700.

The only thing I would add to this is to put an oil pressure gauge on it and crank it over while the plugs are out.

The longer it's been sitting, the less it's worth IMO.
