ttyR2
If painting, a self-etching primer would be a good start. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
We etch our aluminum for our printing plates, then coating is applied. But that is not the same as anything else.Painting aluminum is for short term when used out doors.Etching may help but will not last long. lilcricket350
I cleaned those bars up, any scuffs and cutting the Nissan out of the side rail with 120 on a d.a. then I moved up grit until I got to a wet sand 1000 grit.... then I acid etched them and threw a new set if k.c's on them... spray them every once in a while with some acid but all in all they've stayed looking good so far 1 Quote Link to comment
butter fingers
i like to use Never Dull , it will leave a nice solvent residue after you polish it off which will help protect the aluminum . Butter Fingers 1 Quote Link to comment

I've been to those manufacturing facilities, and they don't blast before coating. They clean with metal prep and then go straight to coating. That give nothing for the coating to hold onto. And the fading is cheap powder or paint. Most likely Chinese. Edited February 22 by Stoffregen Motorsports 1 Quote Link to comment
