ArchetypeDatsun
Are you the one looking for turbo parts on Craigslist? Quote Link to comment
iwayman
I just bought a wrecked non-op turbo car this weekend. Fundamentally the swap seems easy, it'll just be the wiring that's difficult for me. Quote Link to comment

Yeah it will definitely save time reading it over and over plenty of times but like Skib said its like 3-4 wires (ECU, Coil, Ground) but the swap is straight forward a lot easier on S30's than on a S130 at the time i did the L28ET swap i had a friend help me swap it for me for $500 bucks a few years back but mine had 87 300zx Turbo ECU & MAF made it a little difficult plus it had some wires cut that shouldn't have been cut. Make sure everything is clean and works properly or else it can be a pain the arse to know what is wrong with it in the first start up. I'm no mechanic but i'm down to help out if you need a hand getting that engine in there. Quote Link to comment

iwayman
Thanks for the offer Jorge, but I should be good If I get my garage cleaned out tomorrow I'm hoping to pull the l28et out this weekend. Is there anyplace local you guys would recommend for rebuilding it? Quote Link to comment
Skib
Is there anyplace local you guys would recommend for rebuilding it? again, shoulda done this last week before I moved outa medford. ask John Ray the parts manager at Lithia Nissan for a recommendation. (I see to many shops build Datsun/Nissan motors that only know how to build small blocks and they do a shithouse job  ) Quote Link to comment

Is there anyplace local you guys would recommend for rebuilding it? You probably looking a little over $1000 bucks I've already asked around a few years back no shop is really a Datsun specialist so it's not really worth the effort taking it to a shop that hasn't worked on one. If I has a garage and more tools I would have rebuild mine myself. Skib is right you should have asked him! Quote Link to comment

Figure he'll know someone who knows L's enough in the area that can do a good build. I prob wouldnt trust any of the actual shops in town, none of them have L motor experience. Quote Link to comment

Yeah John would know even some of the Z car club guys work on there own cars, and John probably would have time if he wanted to help out he's always working! There is only one Shop that I know that has touched some Z cars its right in front of the Honda Dealer. I only talked to a guy there that was an engineer he showed me all these projects he had going on, he also at the time was selling a clean black 83 280zx. Quote Link to comment
iwayman
I think i talked to them fro recommendations for welding my antisway bar mount back on. I'll give them a call and see what they have to say. Depending on the quotes I get I might just throw some dough (2 grand) at the rebuilt one on ebay and sell what I can off the part car so I don't net too much of a loss lol And the turbo car was kinda a spur of the moment thing, which i just picked up superbowel Sunday. I was gonna come talk with datsun ppl on saturday but no one was there when i swung by >.< Quote Link to comment

Plus there's a ton of info on HybridZ about rebuilding, what kind of power you want, etc etc. Quote Link to comment
Skib
lol shit if your going to spend that kinda money bring it down to me and Ill do it for plenty cheaper  (pic of my old L28et before install) Quote Link to comment
iwayman
Ya I was kinda thinking about just taking it in and only having it boiled and bored and getting my own pistons, etc. so basically rebuild it on my own... Quote Link to comment
iwayman
I'm just not sure where to get parts lol Quote Link to comment
Skib
you dont need to replace the pistons unless you want to. unless they have been subject to some serious detonation or have been hydrolocked/blown HG never fixed. and the pistons and cylinder walls are undamaged just give it a kiss hone to make sure the rings seat and be on your way. iwayman
Well supposedly the engine has a blown headgasket and a bad cylinder so at this point I'm not sure if its rebuildable but hopefully it is.. That's a super clean l28et, how much would you want to do a rebuild? And is a turbo stroker good? Quote Link to comment
