Hardwyre
Haven't been there since 1962, Hue and Phu Bai. I had the "pleasure" of watching my hotel room just South of the bridge over the Perfume River get fragged and hit by a flame thrower by the US Marines to kill off a sniper on the NBC world news during the Tet uprising. I had a good view of the Hue Citadel from the front porch while I was there! A crazy Aussie was attached to the MAAG unit at Phu Bai. Periodically he would tell the cook to prepare the BBQ pit and take off alone across the mountains to the Au Shau valley. He would come back 2 days later backpacking a wild boar that he had shot. Very tasty. That's the kind of dude who wipes his ass with gang bangers and stops bullets in flight with a stern look. Quote Link to comment

He was a veteran of the British "Pacification" of the Communist rebels in Malaysia. One tough SOB [in the best Aussie sense]. Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
Wasn't the Tet Offensive in 1968? I was there in 1962. I watched the Tet offensive on TV in California in 1967/1968. My hotel was still there in 1968, not sure how much of it survived being rescued. Sort of like "We had to destroy the village in order to save it." Quote Link to comment
