zed1
Does anyone have a photo of the original tail gate chain & latch? Is the chain link welded to the truck bed loop? That is the length of the chain? Is the chain threaded in a plastic/rubber sheaf? Thanks, Keith Quote Link to comment
jefe de jefes
There are hooks at each end of the chain. At least on my 521 there is. You can unhook both ends and remove the chain if needed. Slide the chain through an old bike innertube to keep it from making a racket. See pictures below this post. Yay Quote Link to comment
420n620
this pic is from a 521 but I have seen the 520's with and without the sheaf. heres what the hook and welded loop look like, theres a wire to keep the hook always attached to the bed loop. the total length of the chain is 16" where the chain link goes to the hooks. wayno
These are my 520 chains, they don't have a hole for a wire. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
As in the previous photo it is good to drill a hole and put a wire in them. After the plastic sleeves wear off the chains will jump off the truck when going over bumps and fall in between the gate and bed hitting the road never to be seen again. I've caught mine a few times with just one hook attached. some 320 chains just for fun. Quote Link to comment

boxboy
I had coated cables on my gate until today. It was warm today and a friend sat down on the gate and slowly sank farther down until the coating on the cables stretched and the cables came loose. So going by an old chain hook I found out in the barn I made some hooks Ratsun style. Here are some pics. They fit fine on the bed side, but the loop on the gate is much smaller. It appears I need to shave quite a bit off in order to make them work. Does anyone have them handy enough to take some measurements side to side and top to bottom? That would help me out in my barnyard fab process. Quote Link to comment
Rocket Dog
I've had no luck trying to find flat hooks like those - - other than on a marine hardware manufacturer site sold in lots of 1000. Quote Link to comment
