here's my 521

Recommended Posts

i've been lurking for a long time now without showing you my baby. i've owned this truck for close to 12 years now. it's all about the commitment. it has a 1980 l20b and a weber 34/36. discount tire rims at $36 each. it's rattled navy blue satin, inside paint is original, engine compartment is 1995 toyota red, engine is chrysler blue. i wanted it all red but have moved on to other 521's and a 620 for now. you can see my super rare red headlight knob now if i could just get the matching hazard knob. i've covered the dash twice but the material on top always fades. floor boards are solid. has some bondo on the tailgate. i got my seat and rug used but its among the best 521 rugs i've seen even with the stain under the floor mat. you can see my round gas pedal plate that reconnected my pedal. i drove around for many weeks with some fishing line tied to a screw driver for a throttle. i think eventually they all fall off, don't they? it's not done but done enough for me to be very happy with it..thanks ted for the rear bumper!!

where did you get the carpet? Mine is in desperate need of some. Is there a place that sells it precut for these trucks?

I love the no pretense way you look at your truck, Chrysler this, Toyota that, lol, that's the way to do it. Got my chrome 15" rims out of a dumpster behind a tire place, who cares they work great.

For a floor mat I cut and trimmed to fit, a 720 carpet with sound deadener. It also has a vinyl pad for your heels in the high wear area below the pedals. It's plenty big and has a hump for the tranny in it. Get the king cab, extended cab or whatever for the extra long piece that goes under the seats. You may have to poke holes for the seat belt mounting bolts. Oh yeah, you may have to pull some of the thick sound deadener off the back of the carpet where the clutch and gas pedal are as they may not go all the way to the floor with it on.

i have no major plans for it except one day i'd like to get the body work and paint done. everything else is just small little repairs or the mighty option list i would like to complete. for instance red hazard knob, hida-antenna w/key i got the ebay look-a-like, glove box lock is on the way, need fuel door lock, a cute little valve cover filter, window feelers, window felt, door seals the ones on ebay dont look right? clock, windshield, battery hold down, and the damn brakes have never worked right after i did the king pins and thats even after having two diff shops look at it. most recently i've got a new dome light and fuse for it. i got the seat, rug and ignition switch plate from the same 521 that was being parted. i dont think you can get a rug unless you have a upholstery shop make one. i got a spare custom made rug from ted but i'm going to hang on to it. i bought a rug from j.c whitney years ago and it sucked really bad. i'm thinking my ignition switch looks to be out of a 620? here's a pic of my mud flaps, i had to make extensions to make me happy. also a pic of my broken battery tray bracket. maybe some day i'll put a dizzy in it. thats my original speaker in the other pic.

for you that have never seen the correct front hood bumpers here they are. Someone should really have these reproduced.

If you were wanting to painting your sun visors but were hesitant here ya go. Paint is running 15 years strong.

I've always liked the look of the rug or mat under the trans tunnel instead of on top like most people have it.

Not too much to add but today I took some kroil to the heater valve and worked it back and forth to keep it from freezing up not to mention the knob has some cracks in it. I also scrapped the foam off the bottom defrost flap and added some new foam.

I also lubed my headlight switch and swapped it with the wiper switch to put it in it's correct location. Yes it's a 520 red hazard knob on my light switch.

It's been off the road for a year and a half. Somebody yell at me. I plan on putting the front of the engine back together after the 210 is running wich should be soon.

I took the car cover off and put it on the toyota and this is how she looks. Owned for 18.5 years and neglected for 1.5. No I'm not selling it.

I borrowed a couple things off it over the years like the heater s hose and the banjo bolt on the rear brakes. Still need the s hose and some valve cover bolts. You can't see it from the pics but the engine sits in there crooked. I must have the wrong mounts or something.

This is really getting stupid now. Way too much neglect. I'm going to focus on finding some parts and making this run again. I swear!!!
