tdaaj
ok, its been awhile since i've had to work on any of my datsuns.is there a starter relay on the 78-79 620's? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No, but the auto does have an interlock to prevent start in anything but park and neutral. Otherwise the signal comes directly from the ignition switch. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
The solenoid is part of the starter. It is basically the 'relay' (not really, but it serves the same purpose, isolating the starter load from the igniton switch) Quote Link to comment
tdaaj
well must be a bad contact somewhere i guess,:( Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Do you get 12volt at the starter wire that plug into the selinoid?????? If yes then swap the starter. IF NO go back to the key switch, fuse box area amd clean some connections. I never tried this but remove the 12volt starter wire from the selinoid and make a new one and plug into the starter and touch the + side of batt and see if the starter KICKS IN. If yes then its in the switch or connections Quote Link to comment
tdaaj
i was thinking it was the starter at first. i was having problems with the starter to begin with, some times the solenoid would kick, sometimes not. even jumping it with pliers on the starter. I've replaced the stater, replaced the ignition switch and my dumb ass still hasn't gotten a volt meter yet. so I'm thinking its a bad connection in the wiring somewhere in between. banzai510(hainz)
if the selinoid kick in sometimes then that says the ignition switch is working right? I would swap the starter first but alwasy clean the battery connections and ck the cables. I havent seen a BIG rush on bad datsun ignition switches. Quote Link to comment
