Topher88
lol i was so excited i forgot to take a pick of the bay lol. i had them wrap the whole down pipe and i am going to have to figure out something to do with my plastic reservoir for the brake master cylinder cuz they are within 1/4 in one spot... im a plumber and when we solder next to flammable materials we sometimes use a special blanket thats so heat resistant you can put a penny under it and put the flame of map gas that gets 1100 degrees on it and after a couple minuts of this you can pull the cloth off the penny and its still cool to the touch. or i could move the reservoir away from the exhaust.. idk something to think about Quote Link to comment

dennis
did they use 209 stainless for your exhaust? Quote Link to comment
aintnobiscuit
wow, definitely looks very beautiful. congrats on having an exhaust. I've been watching your progress for a bit. Very awesome car. What about a heat shield? What part of the exhaust gets within 1/4" of your reservoir? Quote Link to comment
Topher88
Honestly no idea what metal they used. This part Quote Link to comment
Topher88
Was thinking of wrapping my plastic reservoir's in the adhesive gold foil and that might be enough combined with the heat wrap Quote Link to comment
Tristin
You should get a turbo blanket and fab up a tiny heatshield for the reservoirs. Edit: Checking out that overhead photo... what blowoff valve is that?- it looks like a cheap knockoff in HKS purple. 1 Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Topher, Just take the reservoirs and twist them a little out of the way. It could buy you a half inch maybe.... 1 Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Hurry and get this running. I want to know how the MAF setup works for you... B) Quote Link to comment
Topher88
Good call on the rotating. Ill try that and see if it gets me enough room to get a heat shelled in there Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
What about relocating the reservoir? Probably still need a serious heat shield. A friend with a similar set-up got the master cylinder hot enough that the piston expanded and the brakes very slowly seized up. Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
I was going to do one of those DEI bag shields too but can't find one with an opening large enough for the internal waste gate bell mouth Quote Link to comment
Tristin
I havent run an internally wastegated turbo in a long time, but maybe you could call STM (where I got the photo www.stmdsm.com) and ask what they have available. They do a lot of Mitsu stuff a lot of people still run the Mitsu turbos internally gated. Quote Link to comment
dennis
This is why I am going with a tilton or wilwood pedal box to mount the masters inside of the cabin. You could do a titanium sheet as well. two bends on a brake and you are done. Quote Link to comment
aintnobiscuit
I'm considering the wilwood box as well. Heard a lot of good things and it looks so much cleaner. I saw an install where they mounted the reservoirs in the engine bay, but on the flat area up to the right of the windshield wiper motor. Looked very nice. Quote Link to comment

I am going to mount it inside the 510 and reverse some of the linkage. Quote Link to comment
