zed
the Ignitor module failed on my L18 yesterday. I installed it around 2008, maybe 70 000 miles back. Pity it gave no warning until the moment it died - leaving me stranded on a hot day with two dogs on the truck. Didn't take long to replace the old points and condensor though. I suppose I worked the Ignitor too hard - because I modified the ballast resistor by shortening the resistor wire until the current on the primary ignition circuit was just under 4 amps, including the coil resistance - which is the maximum current the Ignitor can take. I'm running a 40Kv Magfire coil, 1,1mm plug gaps. Anyway, the truck runs just as well with points Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I'm running a 40Kv Magfire coil what resisitance is this? if I put in a low resisiance coil I have to add to my ballast resitiors. sorry about that failing. Mine have never failed. and I got 3 of them and 2 spares(incase) shortning the wire would make it LESS resisitance wounldnt it? if points dont last then you know you got to much current Quote Link to comment
Z-train
I wouldn't put a pertronix on YOUR Briggs & Stratton.Factory electronic,HEI conversion or MSD.Too many "real"choices out there to settle for Pertronix. Quote Link to comment
gcmustang
Pertronix units work ok but do fail. That is why you should always have points with you so you can get back on the road in a few minutes if needed. Quote Link to comment
izzo
I dunno how to install points, i didn't remove them ahha. But i do carry a spare ignitor with me Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
That's why I use the factory Hitachi "black box" ignition. 30+ years and they are still going strong. Quote Link to comment
