Necessary to replace valve cover gasket on an L16?

I'm reading through the valve adjustment section inn my newly acquired, and already much loved, "How to keep your Datsun alive" and it makes no mention of replacing the valve cover gasket. Should I replace it? Should I inspect it first? I kind of assumed I would just replace it, but the book is so thorough and doesn't mention it. Just wondering.

just replace it. its cheap and easy to deal with.

is it still soft and plyable? then its prob still good.

 

if its hard grab a new one, like mopar said, there cheap.

I replace it when it leaks. Make sure you get a cork one though.

remeber just enought to get it slighlty tite and even across all the bolt holes.

 

I dont replace everytime.otherwise I would need a stack of them for the 3 Datsuns I have.
