1961 Dastun SPL212 Fairlady Roadster - Pictures

Here are a few photos of my 1961 SPL212 Fairlady Roadster. It is one of 288 made.

 

I've had this in offsite storage for a while, but I'm just getting a chance to snap a few pictures. The car was built in 1960, but was not titled/registered till 1961. It had undergone a restoration back in the 80's (I removed the craziest clifford style keypad alarm system!). However, it is filthy from sitting in long term storage. The car is fully registered & titled with antique plates here in TX.

 

I haven't decided on what to do with this car yet. I'm thinking about maybe building a replica of the first USA Datsun race car which ran in SCCA races back in 1961.

Underneath all that dust and dirt in the engine bay is an A series engine. Not sure if the car has a 4spd or 5spd, but the A-Series engine was a welcomed surprise to find! Supposedly, it only has 10,000 on the engine.

Nice! I am guessing that the clutch and the brake M/C may have been swapped too, as the ones in my '59 are all cast metal including the cups.

what is the max rated HP on the engine tag? the light blocks just those numbers

I really haven't decided what direction to go with this car. I might actually try building the replica of the original 1961 Datsun that raced in Palm Springs, Riverside and Pomona in 1961.

That is a whopping 48HP at 4800RPM !
