chevymom
I just got a 77 datsun xcab truck 620 and there is no power anywhere. No lights no ignition. There is a blue wire comming off the ignition key and its melted and I can see another wire next to the glove box behind it also melted. Could that be the cause of having no power ? banzai510(hainz)
Just got it? Sorry I assume thats a good sign of something bad. I would ck out the fuse box area also. but usually the wire that is off the starter feeds the fuse box. you should still have power to the lights when you pull the switch.Unless the battery is dead. Im sure soembody can fix this. How nice is this 620KC? Photos olddatsuns.com has wiring diagrams If your a HOT CHEVY MOM I my come over and fix it.(hopefully NOT while your boyfriend is watching) Quote Link to comment
chevymom
Lol. There is a new battery in it. I can get the motor to turn over from jumping the starter but that's all. I checked the fuse box it looks good. I will have to get my tester out and try to figure it out. Since I have no power at all. I don't have any pics. It has some rust but not bad. For a free truck Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I think the Blue wire on the ignition switch is for the cigar lighter so don't worry about it just yet. Power to the fuse box is from a fairly thick Black wire that is connected to the positive side of the battery through a fusible link. Look at the positive terminal on the battery. There will be a large cable, thick as your finger, from it to the starter. Also you should see a smaller wire with a plastic connector joined to a short length of Green wire with a plastic connector to the Black wire going to the fuse box. Like it's name the fusible link is basically a fuse that will over heat and melt to break the circuit. Inspect this Green wire and the two connectors. If the insulation is wrinkled or melted it may be blown inside. At least it can be unplugged and replaced. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
If there is no feed power to the fuse box I assume the fusable link is bad or very close to it. If there was power to the fuse box you should have other power to brake lights ,lights horn ect...... Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
Fastest way to fix it, post a location and a date, fire up your bar-b-que grill and we will come!! :D I am down by the Tacoma Mall if you are in the area also. Quote Link to comment
chevymom
Okay fixed it. Now the freaken carb has a bad leak infront where the float is. The gasket looks good but its a leaker. Thanks guys for the help Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
The stock carbs do that after they sit- all the gaskets dry up. Plus folks overtighten the float bowl cover and warp it. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Ok what was the fix. also the if somebody overtighten the Banjo fitting the seal can leak also. float bad? causing a overflow on top of carb? Quote Link to comment
chevymom
Someone replaced the battery cables and didn't hook up a black wire to the battery and I did . Then it started right up. And the carb is poring out of the bottom of the float where the bottom screw is. I took it apart and the the rubber seal looks good. So it must be the cover of it Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Carefully clean the carb side with a toothbrush or equivalent. Make sure the groove the gasket sits in is clean. Wipe the black rubber ring gasket and the metal front with the bull's eye fuel level glass and assemble and tighten. As Hainz says the fuel line where it bolts to the carb above the sight glas can also leak and drip off the bottom. Quote Link to comment
chevymom
Ok I've tried everything and nothing stops it from leaking. Do you know where to pick up carb parts for these carbs? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
you dont have a elecltric fuel pump on there by chance that maybe is over pressurizing the carb? Most electrics need a regulator. If stock pump then maybe its ok. I think most stores now have to order a carb kit. To me Hitachis are just not worth it. besides soem of the EZ access stuff that you can maybe get to. Quote Link to comment
chevymom
I found a electric fuel pump on the frame on the passenger side Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
far as I know a 77 was mecahnical fuel pump. I know later they had a electric from the factory and those should be Ok also but if a after market type one needs to be sure it is a low pressure pump. less than 3.5/4 pounds Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
I still have my Hitachi carb, your welcome to it for parts if you want to come down to the Tacoma Mall to get it. Quote Link to comment
