The guy who had it b4 me has i custom battery holder(bungee cord)

 

the hooks had pulled up the caps on the battery and there is what appears to be corrosion on the fender well and the valve cover...think it might have sloshed out

 

if there isnt enough battery fluid, what do i replace it with??

on a 521 its near the fuse box but up and under the passenger fender well and should look like a 6 pin connector. I think 5 wires are only used.

 

now if it overvolts then its the volt reg should look like this one below in photo. Get a solid state one if possible Wells brand or sold thru carquest. or a Jap made mechanical one. The ones from Napa Suck and are made in USA units.

 

the smaller one is a solid state one. taller mechanical.

 

note the connector and u shoul be able to find this.

 

I just run a standard size 24 battery or whatever it needs.

 

 

Im hoping the volt reg connector is standard as later 521 but I have seen different set up on the alternators themselves so always make sure on a alternator swap everything can swap as I have seen differnt set up on the ealy model of the 521 and early 510s

 

get a cheezy volt meter for a few bucks and plug in cig lighter so you catch this next
