  1. A lot of manuals are available online as .pdf files if you do a bit of searching - here is a .pdf Factory Service Manual for the L20B engine (from the 200sx manual) http://cdn.preterhuman.net/texts/automotive/Nissan_Model_L20b_Engine.pdf
  2. Oh, and welcome to the site - there aren't too many 710s left out there, but there are lots of 710 people on this site who would be happy to answer your questions and help you get another 710 back on the road. Here is some inspirational reading: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24412-my-76-710-goon/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/33242-1976-wagoon-710/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/56047-my-75-710-build/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/17682-my-island-74-710/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/55042-blackmarkit-710-daily/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/34485-710-project-thread/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/34157-indys-ka710-wagoon-160j-sse-replica/
  3. I hope that the Weber transplant is a success and you can get it fired up again. Has it been sitting so long that the brakes and engine are frozen? ...getting rims and lowering it might be kinda "putting the cart before the horse." You might want to make sure that the basic stuff is repairable before you spend too much money on the suspension and rims/tires. I don't want to rain on your parade here, but sometimes cars can get some nasty problems from sitting too long. ...though lots of times Datsuns come back to life with a bit of gas poured down the carb and a jump-start!
  4. Yeah - but the Datsun is my only car - I'd need to rent a truck too.
  5. Thanks - I've seen some good work come out of his shop, but I'm planning on doing the disassembly myself - it might be kind of far to transport the shell. ...I think I can get a 120 mile tow from AAA, but I don't think that they'd tow a car with no glass. or engine.
  6. While you were busy enforcing the law as Ratsun Geography Police Officer, you seem to have neglected your duties as Ratsun Spelling Police Officer. The Bay Area = The cities surrounding San Francisco Bay.
  7. I'll be disassembling my car and getting it repainted later this summer and I was wondering if anyone out there in Ratsunland could help out with some recommendations of good places to take an old 710 for bodywork and a new coat of paint. It would be great to hear about some places that have done quality work for you - or places that I should avoid - and please post some before/after pictures if you have them.
  8. Welcome back! I'm curious to see how this will come back together. I'm surprised that the IRS didn't eat up more of the cargo space.
  9. I'm always hoping that I come across one of these sun-shades in a car's trunk at the yard: ...and I'm regretting not getting these fiberglass things off of this van that was at the Modesto yard: ...and that's my 710.
  10. The glass is still attached!! - I just popped off the chrome to see how much metal would need welding under the trim. I gotta get my car repainted so it doesn't get mistaken for a pick-n-pull victim!
  11. Yup - I'll be there! I think we're going up to Point Reyes to try and see some whales before or after the run.
  12. I finally got around to removing the trim around my rear window to check out whatever rusty horrors are beneath. It was very difficult to remove! First, I heard that it could be removed by pulling on the clip with a dental pick. All that did was bust the hook off of the pick: A sawzall blade worked much better! I just grabbed the clip with the tooth on the end of the blade and pulled to release the trim. If you try this, it'd be a good idea to wear a leather glove and put some cardboard over the glass so you don't sawz your fingers or the glass. All in all, it wasn't a complete disaster under the trim. I think I'll remove the clips before the car gets painted and then re-attach them with pop rivets or plastic rivets so that there won't be a bunch of unpainted metal to start rusting under the trim. - here's the worst of the rust (there's a hole on either side of the window seal): In good news, I celebrated getting a new job by renting a garage. For the first time since I've owned this car, it won't be parked on the street. Hooray! I'm planning on starting to disassemble it for bodywork and new paint once I get back from Canby, so garage space will help out with that goal!

Nice to see the progress! I just started trying to knock the valence panel I got with those fender back into shape - it's going to need a lot of work too!
  14. ...the corners don't look like they've been dropped too many times. Plus a "fragile" decal. Nice touch.
  15. Hi, Welcome to the site! I was in Turku about 10 years ago, and there were a few junkyards with Datsuns, (Juhani Halmeenmaki took me on a junkyard tour - I'm not sure if he's still part of the Datsun world out there, but he would be a good source for information.) There was a pretty big yard in Tortinmaki, but from checking Google maps, it looks like it might no longer be in business: https://goo.gl/maps/IOSus I was able to pick up new reproduction fenders from the parts store in Finland for my 100A - it could be worth a try. (and post some more pictures once you have a chance to wash all of the dirt off of that car!)

    Zerow's 610 4-door

Nice to know that the repair is already in the works - I hope it goes well and its back on the road soon. Also, I'm glad that the license plate frame survived the crash.
  17. Went on a job interview - the older woman who was interviewing me saw my Datsun tie-tack - she used to teach mechanic lessons and drive a 510. I hope that means I got the job.

You're in. I once got a job cause the lady I interviewed with's daughter was going to school for design. I had just graduated.

A friend gave me the pin a long time ago - she was my brother's ex.

Brother: "...but she never gave me any gifts!" Me: "you drive a Volvo."

    610s unite!!!!!!

...but the weight savings over steel door panels is INCREDIBLE!

    710's unite!!!!!!!!

Some folks on this site are good at diagnosing mechanical problems that help keep Datsuns on the road, and others are good at noticing tiny trim details that have nothing to do with a car's primary function. ....unfortunately, I'm in the latter category.

The color looks almost black in that picture! I think your side marker lamp has the lens on backwards - the shape is almost symmetrical, but the front end is just a bit more pointy.
  21. No problem - let me know if you change your mind - it would be rewarding to get that back in one piece. When my 160JSSS gauges were send from Malaysia they were really poorly packed too - and the box got dropped hard enough to make some cracks in the plastic and shatter the needles off of the gauges!
  22. Man, that's a nightmare! Especially since it was an international shipment. It takes so long for the package to arrive, and then to have it dropped on your doorstep in such awful condition. If there's any good news... it does at least look like you have most of the bits that make up a dashboard... and this plastic does glue/melt back together nicely with this kind of plastic glue to make a joint that is almost invisible if you're careful (the water-thin clear stuff like this:) - heck, if it would help you out I'll even volunteer to take a stab at piecing it back together for you. I like puzzles. And I work with plastics and stuff for a livin'. http://willkrause.com/skills/props-3d-interactives/ )
