  1. Nah, datsun160JSSS is the one looking for a 710 console: mkornuth@klcorp.com The rest of us are just here to geek out on 710 minutae.
  2. I got around to installing a windshield washer bottle yesterday. Mine was cracked, so I found a universal replacement on ebay. The mounting bracket was different, so I just cut the mount from my old bottle to use as a bracket on the new bottle. It works okay, but I should have cut it slightly wider, since the bracket squishes a little when it is clicked into the metal mount on the car's inner fender.
  3. I've only seen two basic consoles in 710s. A smaller one: And a bigger one, with a bin that sometimes has a lid and sometimes doesn't. I think both had an insert that was different between the cars with manual and automatic transmissions.

I've heard a few people say that 710s have camber issues - how does this affect the handling?
  5. How bad was the 710? I'm looking for a rear package shelf for mine!

Mike (Datzenmike) has a few super-detailed posts about his 710s and their modifications - they'd be a really great place to start your research! http://community.ratsun.net/topic/17682-my-island-74-710/ http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24412-my-76-710-goon/

The previous owner did the work to the bumpers - he made it sound like it was a simple matter of disassembling the shocks and removing/shortening the springs. I don't think it is anything too complex. Mine is the same as yours pretty much - the USA only got our 710s to the Deluxe trim level ...no SSS 710s were brought here, ...but here's a Japanese brochure showing all we missed out on: http://www.ratdat.co...range_japan.pdf @Will...because they look so HOT close in like that!tight ride.im guessing the difference is that you have the SSS version(or similar) ?regardless, did you sink the bumpers?how so?drilling through or chopping and welding it back up?
  8. Sounds like someone is questioning Violet's honor!
  9. Hardtop weatherstripping - just in time for the hurricane!

Oh, here are some photos of my car with the bumpers pulled in close to the body - they don't look quite so ungainly with all of the plastic removed! Mine is from '74 too, but for some reason it has different seats and different trim on the trunk.

I saw this one on craigslist - congrats, you got a great deal!
  12. I went to move my car for street cleaning and it fired right up. ...found a parking place and it konked out again while I was parking. At the same time as the rain started. At least the weatherstripping finally arrived in the mail!
  13. Thanks for the info! The previous owner changed out the fusible links for maxi fuses, and the owner before him added some relays when the automatic transmission was swapped out for a 5-speed and installed a Petronix ignition system. ... so now the electrical system is screwy. I'll run through the fuses and your troubleshooting list tonight. Hopefully I can figure out what is the cause of my troubles. -Will
  14. I was working on my car yesterday in Brooklyn, and a guy tells pulls up and tells me that he has a car like mine, only a 4-door... I figure that he actually has a 510 or a b210, but he whips out some photos from his glove compartment, and, sure enough he has an early-style fastback 710 sedan. I gave him a piece of paper with this site's address written on it - hopefully he'll stop by. It's so nice to know that there are more 710's this far east! I also spotted a 620 in my neighborhood. Both the 710 and 620 are sporting combination primer grey/gloss black paint schemes. I'm still trying to figure out the ignition/charging system on my car. When I turn the key lately nothing happens (no dash lights, nothing at all,) but the dome light comes on when I open the door and the battery still reads as having power (it says 17.89 volts on my multimeter actually.) Does anyone know how to test for a dead ignition switch? Or how to hotwire a 710?
  15. I drove to Philadelphia this weekend, but my charging system gave out on the return trip... and then AAA wouldn't tow me home until the next morning. ...15 hours to get from Philadelphia to Brooklyn! If anyone can recommend a good source of troubleshooting for a charging system, I'd be much obliged. Luckily, there was a good photographer along for the ride.
  16. Welcome! It's always nice to see another 710. Hopefully you can find space in the dashboard for all of the modifications! It is kinda tight back there.
  17. Nope - I drove from Brooklyn to Syracuse on Friday - the picture of the car in Sacramento is still the prettiest picture I have of the car.
  18. I just found one in a Triumph TR-7... the cables were really long, so old British cars with dual carbs are probably worth a check!
  19. That's what I figured - it looks janky, but it works fine!! maybe to resistance match the input to the tach. If it works leave it in there.
  20. I visited Harry's U-Pull-It in West Hazelton, PA and found one 720 and 2 280zx's. One of them looks like its bodywork was done with cake icing covered with silver paint, and another one that was so rusty the wheel that it was propped up on was bursting through the floor. (...though they could be a good source for some six-spoke wheels.) I also stopped by Pick-n-Pull in Auburn, NY, and there weren't any Datsuns, but I was amazed to see this early 50's DeSoto that went into the crusher with its toothy grille.
  21. I found this bundle of resistors in the wire that leads from the coil to my tach - does anyone know why this was done? I checked under the kick panels, and there was space for 4" speakers. The panels are made out of something that looks like fiberglass crossed with flimsy carpet padding, but they seem to be barely strong enough to hold speakers. I found this weird lighter in a junkyard 280Z - it has a hole in the middle - I guess so you can light your cigarette without the bother of removing the lighter from the dashboard.
  22. I finally had a chance to work on my 710 this weekend! My car's rear-view mirror was disintegrating, ...but I checked around a junkyard and it looked like a mirror from most 80's-90's Nissans would fit onto the car without modifications. I picked one from an Altima which had a light-grey color that matched my car pretty well: ...With a day/night switch! I also added a hard start relay since my car's starter was very intermittent. There are a lot of wiring diagrams for these online, but it was confusing since it looks like different manufacturers use different wire colors. It's best if you just go by the numbers on the relay 86 -> ground 85 -> disconnect the wire that connects to the snap-on connector on the solenoid, and connect this to 85 87 -> connect to the snap-on connector on the solenoid 30 -> connect to the solenoid at the same point where the heavy battery cable is connected.
  23. I dunno. It looks like it would be difficult to park.
  24. Everyone likes the '74 710s with the little bumpers, right?
