  1. I've been driving it around to and from work and it's back to it's old self. :) Now I need to fix these damn rear lights again. I fixed them the other day and noticed the ground wire on the side of the sockets are not soldered. They're just smashed in there between the outer plastic housing and the socket. I should have bought those new ones I seen on ebay recently for $80 a set.
  2. Radiator to Tacoma,wa 98405? Pics please when your not busy with everyone else.
  3. It's not a tweeker 521 until you have a 620 windshield duct taped in place. Yes I've seen it before and wished I took a pic. I later seen it in the local junk yard. Welcome to Ratsun.
  4. Good idea. I was thinking about cutting out some styrofoam or using that expanding foam in a can stuff.
  5. I'm currently swapping out my heater box cause it looks like shit and I'm unfreezing the valve. Most people unknowingly break off the white heater knob thinking they can get it to move again. Doesn't work. This is what makes the white heater knob so rare. Even grabbing the valve with pliers will end up breaking the soft brass tip of the valve off where the screw goes like the front two in this pic. So what I do is take out the heater assembly or you can just remove the face of the heater via the three clips and slide the core out leaving the box in. Then I remove the screw that keeps the valve from coming out and then pound out the valve with a 3/8 wooden dowel. Some wd-40 or similar helps. Afterwords I took some 1000 grit sand paper to the valve just lightly enough to make it move nicely again. I pray that the flat style o-ring will still work holding the water back. Dont loose the little screw. I dug out as many pine needles as I could with a copper wire strand and a pair of tweezers. Here is the old and new side by side. Half way there. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the disintegrated foam that holds the core to the housing box.
  6. The red one you may ask $20 to $30. I recently seen a nos red one go for $80 I wish I had bought it and not given it's location away. Black ones $5 each if no chips in it.
  7. The red one is a 520 emergency flasher knob. All 3 knobs are for a 520 but will also fit on a 521.
  8. I drove it around a bit today. Feels good. Sounds good.
  9. I have a similar problem. L16's are not wimpy. I can do 90 at 5000rpm and consistently do 70 at around 4000rms daily to work and back. weber 32/36 w53 head stock tranny and rear end. Here's the thing in my 72 I have a l20b and it doesn't even compare. It's sluggish. Being rebuilt and a new in the box weber 32/36 should be faster than my l16. A few months ago I swapped out the points for a electronic dizzy. No change. When I open the second barrel it takes off but anything before that is sluggish. I also get after fire through my carb on quick punches on the throttle with the primary only sometimes. I think the primary jet is too small or something. I'm going to swap carbs and see if there is a difference. Other than that all I can think it may be is my cam timing. I'm going to take my inspection cover off and see where the dash is. I know this doesn't help you and not trying to thread jack but I feel your pain.
  10. Well it started. I'll drive it around a bit tomorrow after work.
  11. Here is mine. Not perfect but all the ones i've seen aren't that good looking. There is a premium for minty ones. :)
  12. I got the head back on and most everything hooked up. Tomorrow after work I'll try to fire it up.
  13. I put the cam assembly together tonight. It only burned a little oil on start up which actually got better in the last year. Kinda weird maybe I started using thicker oil. When I took the head off I noticed it was on cam number one and I had some slack but my v notch was ok. I'm wondering now with the resurfacing if I should put it on number two.
  14. I just got my head bacik from the machine shop. New intake valve and hardened intake seats. Turns out my intake valves were really worn out to the point they were sharp on the edge. I forgot to ask how much was taken off the surface.
  15. Nice I have a set of those rims too. That seat is cherry! You have the original tailgate chains and a rare Datsun valve cover that says 1600 on it.

    New here!

Welcome to the best Datsun forum on earth. B)
  17. I like this truck. The color fits perfect. Wheels are nice. How about interior and engine bay pics?
  18. $5000 Is what minty 521's go for. $6000 I might have seen once. $7000 is unheard of. There is a guy here in washington who wants $10,000 for his. I'll look for specific pics of trucks and their prices in my photo's.
  19. Awesome Mike. I have watched the whole thing. I've learned a lot too even where my tiny squeaking noise is coming from. I might put a drop of 3 in 1 oil on that. You have inspired me to fix my steering box leak or replace the box. I filled it up many times and it just came out in a mess. I could never tell where it was leaking from being the flange or at the arm. So I'm embarrassed to say I've been driving it for a while with no fluid it which I know is a no no. Maybe I'll even put on my 520 steering wheel with the chrome horn ring.
  20. 1.25 head intake ports. 1.65 intake valves and 1,28 exhaust valves. 1.17 intake manifold ports.
  21. Yeah I run premium about every other or every 3rd tank. Only because I can feel the performance difference and see mileage difference.
  22. BHG Blown head gasket. The head will still get done though.
