  1. If you check out this video here, you can hear a little more rattling coming from the trans, that isn't the same noise that I'm describing here, but leads me to believe the fluid is the problem... http://s1095.photobucket.com/user/Yatesphoto47/media/VIDEO0095_zps5bca66d4.mp4.html
  2. Yeahhh the synchromesh is what I had, and it was cheap. Same stuff I ran in this gearbox before it was taken out, and it hadn't given an issue yet like it is now, which is strange. I figured it would be okay, but it's obviously not! I'm gonna be swapping for 80W90 or THICKER since our weather is getting hot fast here, and the thicker stuff would probably help cushion all the worn crap in the trans. Goddang man you've been really reading up over the years   :fu: Pretty sure my gearbox is an early box, because it pops out of reverse, and sounds like a box-o-rocks when backing up. (Surprised I haven't shattered the reverse gear!) I have an Exedy T/O to go into the 5 speed when I get that rebuilt, so I'm just using an 'old' on right now, but it's only got a few thousand miles on it.It's about a year old. Gotta find access to a shop press so we can get some rebuilding done, but after that I won't give two shits about my 4speed :fu:
  3. Yeah east coast fails for Datsun parts :P haha I figure if the common denominator is fluid, that's where I'll start lol the T/O is new... ish? haha well about as new as it gets anyways. I just keep driving it, and work on it as i come along lol. Bodywork next! Not sure, 100% but I know it was a non-turbo ZX
  4. I did have this same issue :P And I did use synchromesh in both! I can't afford to blow up any transmissions right now, and I'm guessing that 90% of the issue is oil weight, so I am going to get some redline or Royal Purple Friday and swap it :fu: I thought it was strange that both transmissions did it, but oil weight was the only thing in common between the two.
  5. Man I really hope I don't blow this trans up. I'm gonna try some thicker fluid and see what it does. The Synchromesh is only about 5w or 10w-30 so it may not be doing much when it heats up and thins out..
  6. Odd. I thought it sounded strange, since 4th is just a direct drive. Maybe I have something loose around the tailshaft. I'll get a video of the sound and investigate it. I added 2qt of synchromesh, which is equal to about 1.9L which is only .1L off the 2L refill capacity.
  7. Also, I've flipped my shifter backwards to bring the shift knob closer to my hands and bring the bends towards the back of the truck, instead of the front. Is there any chance that maybe the plastic cup thingy is binding and it's not getting into 4th completely??
  8. Just recently got my LZ together and today was my first time driving it. We put the 4 speed back in since the 5speed was popping out of reverse and needs a rebuild. I noticed, and it's actually getting pretty bad, that in 4th gear once driving for a moment or so that it starts to make a nasty grinding sound, and it sounds exactly as it would if you were grinding into a gear with a worn out synchro but this is a little more faint. It happens mostly when coasting or coming off the throttle. Any clues? It's got some fresh synchromesh and it was working fine when we swapped in the 5 speed a few months back. This is strange :geek: I might also add that with my 5speed I would occasionally hear a slight grind when coming off the throttle in 5th gear that got louder as speed increased, but never moving forward at normal speed.
  9. Man I'm hungry.

lol, you with your monster engine. My l18 gets a lovely 14mph o.O

  10. I got the spring  Put it in and blew out the seals LOL Got my new master from NAPA this morning and it's much better
  11. I've actually considered Valvoline myself, but at my AZ I always have Mobil 1 on sale. The 5qt of VR1 Synthetic used to sell at my store for 6.99 during the summer, so if it drops down on price again I'm gonna stock up. Makes sense, thanks for the money saving advice Mike :P Got it driving now and it's a hell of a motor! Running rough, made a video of the first drive where I talk a little bit about some of my issues, but I've resolved most of them right now, so I'll upload that and let you guys enjoy until I get a down-the-street video.
  12. Took the truck for its first drive. Stage 1 Exedy is a fucking man clutch!

  13. Yeah, I know for a fact that's not my issue :P Thank God! The issue seems to be all M/C related. I replaced the spring with one from NAPA, and tried to bleed it after replacing the slave, and the frickin thing got WORSE. I just kept getting air in the line, and bubbles in the res. Master_o_turbonics stopped by and we took another look at it, and decided what I kinda already figured. The M/C seals are shot and its sucking air in from the back seal. No biggie, Napa will have one in the AM for me!! She's so much better in person :fu: I'm gonna spring it down the road and get a nice video as soon as I get the clutch fixed! I won't beat on it too hard, since it's still fresh and the clutch is new. I just changed the oil and it was nastyyyyy. Now running 5qt of fresh Lucas 10W-30, some ZDDP, and a K&N Pro oil filter  Gonna change it again in 500 miles or two weeks, whichever comes first. Then I'll have Mobil 1 10W-30
  14. Dude it feels sooooo good :fu: It was actually the tailgate :P I got that fixed now! for now that is.... lol the exhaust rattles like crazy though. I got it running a lot better now! It idles consistent when it's warm. I have to get the choke set up properly and adjusted because it does nothing right now. We'll see how that goes though, I still haven't driven it. I found a new spring and re-assembled the master cylinder and I have a stiffer petal, but still not disengaging the clutch all the way. I'm gonna replace the slave today, and master tomorrow morning because both are questionable. For now.... enjoy.
  15. :( I know Napa lists on local for cheap! Gonna call in the morning. Hopefully I can get this all finished up by noon :) The master cylinder is the only thing holding me back.
  16. It says (and I'm paraphrasing) wah wah wah I'm a 12 year old and I don't like that you drive a Mexican minitruck oh and also I think but don't really know if you're the one that called the police because we were partying. The people that wrote that are some remedial mother fuckers.
  17. Wow bob! I totally forgot about this car. Too bad you're selling it.
  18. LOL Ironic how they call you a baby, but write like a 12 year old kid on crack cocaine. Not to mention the blatant racism. If anyone left a note like that on my truck, i'd be cracking skulls. Shit ain't right.
  19. 100% positive Pulled the master apart and found this I'm gonna try to find a spring tomorrow if I can't get a master local.
  20. Thanks guys! The credit all goes to Master-o-turbonics! This dude built me a KILLER MOTOR!!! Now for the latest, FUCK MY LIFE... I pressed the clutch and bam, straight to the floor. Bled it and it got worse. Absolutely NOTHING. Pulled out the clutch master and started disassembling it to check everything out inside and found that the piston was jammed inside of the bore and wouldn't budge about 1/2 way through. Put some air pressure on it and POP... came out. And this is the spring. Nice right? Fuck me this is stupid. I just want to drive my truck!
  21. No. Waste of money. Stick with NGK
  22. Hey guys, anyone know of an alternate clutch master that will fit the 620 properly?? I got my LZ in, running, broken in, and stepped on the clutch. NOTHING. Bled it, lost all of the pedal. Opened the bleeder all the way and pumped it, and there's barly any fluid coming out. I got the itch now and it's driving me crazy!
  23. LOL... this could be fun... ''..the front cover gasket for an FS5W71B Transmission P/N is 12493-23487N''
