Thanks for the link but when the trans dies, whenever that is, I'll be swapping to manual. I parted out a manual 411 once and kept all the conversion pieces. Just would have to find the correct transmission, I know someone who has a couple spares :). While I was out driving the exhaust hanger broke, sounded beautiful. Next up is pulling the exhaust mani off, replacing and taking it to a shop for new pipes.

So after doing the trans service the car wasn't any better.. halfway through my test drive I remember I was messing with the carbs before I put the car in storage. Turns out, my carbs were de-tuned, to the point of running at idle was fine but lacking all power to move the trans. A quick roadside adjust and we were driving again.. I NEED to dial in these carbs. THE GOOD NEWS is that the transmission in fine! :) :) :) well.... it's not broken anyhow!

Well.. here's to a manual trans conversion. Honestly looks like the pan has never been dropped, filter is fine but much metal dust in bottom of pan.. I don't know if this is normal wear and tear and lack of service or internal death. The car ran fine before sitting for a year, I think I'll throw the pan back on after cleaning and try and bottle of lucas trans fix to free up anything if stuck.. If I can't get it streetable as-is, I'll boat anchor the damn thing.. manual trans conversion?

1600 wagons seem far less common, I really dig it. I rolled my RL411 out today, still having the same trans issues, I thought it fixed itself but no. Dropping pan tomorrow. I did manage to put some straight bumpers on it though. Looks good, the chicks dig it. Also took the bumper guards off, looks much better in my opinion.

Buy Todds 1600 Wagon on Portland craigslist! can't get a better deal.

Thanks Mike for the valuable info.

put a quart of atf in the transmission, seems like that fixed it. wonder if dipstick is original. Will still pull trans and service it.

Have been checking while warmed up, running and on level ground in Park. I'm going to pour lucas trans medicine in it and see if that changes anything. Otherwise will drop pan and report back when I have good or bad news. thanks guys.

I might be, I'm wondering because I know the pump is sucking air, there are tiny air bubbles in the fluid. The only thing that had me puzzled is that It's right below the full mark but who knows how accurate that is? I'll add a bottle of atf before I pull the pan to see if that makes a difference.

When I manually pull on the cable there is no restriction, I'll check to see if it looks lubricated, I should most likely drop the trans pan anyhow to see how it looks inside, I have the gasket and filter already, just waiting on the snow to melt more. The full rebuild kit sounds like something I should buy.

Maybe its time for a new filter and pan gasket, which I have in a box. I imagine the fluid must have been too cold when I went to drive it and the filter sucks.

I was just thinking about that today.. Figuring someone really missed out on an awesome deal as I wont list the car again for sale in the foreseeable future. was in a hard spot at the time. There are many tiny air bubbles on the transmission dip stick, I imagine I might have cavitated the transmission? I believe the cable is working, got it to cycle a couple gears today but no power up any incline. trans fluid is red and not burnt. Will have to figure this out soon.

Thanks, I dig it, all refurbished and installed. stock color, has had a respray on the front passenger fender years ago but otherwise stock, It still has the dealership sticker on the rear panel.

Shoveled it out from the snow, took it on a drive, couldn't get it out of high gear, it's the 3 speed bw35. couldn't climb hills worth a damn must have been sitting too long. time for a flush? wouldn't kick down either. A before picture.

Yeah, It's the japan version gauge cluster for the R411. have been watching it for months, finally dropped the coin on it. Unobtainable radio delete face :) I also have this Jeco clock, kind of fits. still looking for the OEM version, really getting anxious to work on the car, it's trapped in a garage surrounded by 2 feet of ice/snow that I don't want to shovel.

and this is in the mail for me.

Have been snowed in for 2 weeks. this showed up today....

Not that I've ever seen, coolest carb upgrade would be, in my opinion, the optional or aftermarket Dual carb manifold with some Solex Phh2 40s. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DATSUN-1600-ROADSTER-SPL311-WEBER-DCOE-MANIFOLD-AND-LINKAGE-NEW-/272288458630?hash=item3f65a82786:g:6rwAAOSwwE5WbdMB&vxp=mtr

----------- any leads on a front bumper? I have a classifieds ad running, no hits..

Looks very nice!

I'm figuring on taking the exhaust manifold and collector to a machine shop, having them surfaced and then building the gasket like Mike said. What do you need?

I emailed this guy.. says the floors are rusted out and the engine was left exposed without a hood and valve cover for 20+ years, says it's rusted solid. I would still love to buy this, if I could figure out logistics.
