  1. I searched for the type i'm talking about a little tonight. They're called led conversion cards.
  2. Those are the kind of lights we sell for trailers, etc. I've only seen the "trim to fit " led panels on some of the hot rodding shows on tv.
  3. An Opel Kadett wagon, that's outstanding! My Dad had a beige one for a few years in the early to mid 70's,then sold it to my Aunt & Uncle. I don't remember what ever became of it. It grew mushrooms inside once. I also remember my stepmom trying to drive it,& getting stuck becuse she didn't know how to drive a stick. I was about 7 years old& had to walk back to our apartment to get my Dad,so he could come rescue her because she couldn't drive it up the hill .
  4. The led thing was just a thought. It would be nice to have brighter tail lights, especially brake lights, for safety reasons, you know. I didn't say I wanted them to flash & do a light show, like at some nightclub or something.
  5. There's probably a thread about this ,but if would be nice to have a multi-led panel that fit inside the factory tail light. I've seen some for other vehicles, that you just cut to fit the area behind the tail light lens. We sell some lights at NAPA, for heavy duty trucks & trailers that are multi led. Maybe that's what they were going for with those "trailer lights".
  6. Yeah,i get that. Unfortunately,I'm just a NAPA parts guy,& I don't have the tools,& training to fabricate parts....yet. I imagine if it was that simple someone would've done it already.
  7. Oh,ok . Just to be clear,I knew it was a bump stop,it just looked different than what i've seen before. I've seem torsion bar front suspension on VW's before, but I assumed Datsun trucks were different. Too bad,in a way. If they were the same,we could just put on drop spindles to lower our trucks,& still have decent ride.
  8. I'm fairly new to the Datsun truck thing apparently. What is this in the picture,is it modified somehow ( it looks like it is ). Is this something that will help the ride,& handling of my 521 once it's lowered?
  9. I actually like the factory tail lights, I'd like to have the trim panel that goes on the tail gate between them, maybe a set of the euro style with the amber tops, but that's all I'd change.
  10. I've always liked slot mags ! I just really like the old school look of them. I've been keeping my eye out for a set,( or libre's,or Techno's,or Star Sharks ) for my goon on & off the whole time I've owned it. I've always disliked the 200sx wheels I have now,but they're better than the rusty wheels that were on it when I bought the car. Between how the set I have on my 521 look on that,& how good the set you're putting on the Green Goon, I think I'll start looking again. Good to see you posting again!
  11. I just read this whole thread. You have really done some great work on this car. I almost rescued a coupe from Dale's auto wrecking in Oregon City back in the 80's. I couldn't quite get the guy to sell it whole,& it had no engine or transmission. Your detail about the automatic makes me want to find one. My old '73 180b 4 door was an automatic. It would pull you into the seats when it shifted,& was a pretty quick car. I regretted selling it almost imediately,& even more when I found it abandonded in downtown O.C.,after someone had cut it's engine out with a torch. Made me sick to see it that way! That really sucks about all that shipping damage!! I hope the seller has another one to replace the one they apparently put through a shredder before they sent it to you.
  12. That's funny! I actually just want a set of meshies, not just the flat lip style. A co-worker of mine has a really nice reconditioned set, with tires, but I think he was asking $700.00 for them. Too much for me to spend right now. I never have liked the 200sx wheels I have on now,but they're better than the rusted, crome flakeing off 4 spoke Appliance mags that were on my car when I bought it. I'd like to have some rims with gold painted centers, preferably Techno's,but again I can't spend that much $ on wheels.

    Post Your 521.

Very, very nice trucks, both of them! That light green one looks like it just rolled out of the dealer showroom display,or a museum somewhere.
  14. Well,if you decide you don't like them you could always.swap them onto MY car! I've been watching for an affordable set of those.
  15. If someone could check if that 521 has a shortened steering column,&/or a.5.speed swap (I could use the modified trans mount &.driveline),then pm me,possibly grab them for me,depending on cost,I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
  16. Very nice!! I really like those wheels! My Goon is still at 4x4 height too,but that will get changed evemtually.
  17. Thanks! It feels like my build is going too slow, especially compared to some of the other projects& build threads that I follow on here. My block didn't come back from the macine shop today, I had hope that it would, but they're real busy there & being an employee,my project is a little less of a priority than costomers projects. Considering how much less it cost me,& that I know that they've done awesome work on mine when they had time,I'm definately not complaining!! I have no doubt it will be worth the wait! Once the engine is reassembled,I still have to get my truck moved over to my friends garage, then scramble to get it installed,so he can get to work on his project truck,(a '63 chevy c10 short-wide,I'm a little jealous.) . I still need to go through the clutch &.brake hydraulics. I'm still planning on swapping in the 620 power booster & dual circuit brake master cylinder. If any of you have advice on that,I'd love to have your input. I'm keeping the drum brakes because I bought the really cool slot mags from Taadj,& I think they really help make the old school look I'm going for with this truck. I also need to get the 720 4x4 springs,2 inch lowering blocks installed,& the front adjusted to match. As long as this truck is on the road in time for Canby,I'll be happy.
  18. I should be getting my block back from the machine shop today, I had them resurface it,& put in new freeze plugs while it was there. Everything else is ready fornreassembly. I just need to paint the block,& clear coat all the non-painted parts so they don't get all pitted & stained looking again. I can hardly wait to get to work on reassembling this engine!

    69 521 Build

I like them, because they're different than what most of the air-cooled vw crowd is doing. Plus there's still some handling potential, kinda like driving a real old school sports car. Niether of the type 1 ghia's I had quite had that. The '67 "GTV" bug on the otherhand drove like a go-cart,except for with the engine I had in it it was sqirrely as hell! Lots of fun,but a bit scary !
  20. Are you buying them from Tokyo2u ? if so,let me know how all that goes, including getting the parts shipped here. I haven't bought anything from them,or from anu other jdm parts site yet.

Nice Notchback! Love those COSMIC wheels! I almost bought an og set for my '67 bug but then got all wrapped up in my EMPI GTV clone plan,so I bought a set of 4 lug EMPI sprint stars instead. My favorite type 3 is the ghia ( type 34 ). I've wanted one since the first time I saw one. Almost got one once, but couldn't quite come up with the $. Someday....

Nice truck! It's nice to see another one in this shade of green!
  24. I wish my goon looked like this, especially those wheels! As for the chrome door trim, there is a set om ebay right now. Check out seller Tokyo2u . I also follow thier page on facebook. They part out alot of cars that cannot be registered,or sold whole. I've also seen that rear hatch trim in their pics of cars they're parting,so they're bound to have it for sale.
  25. I stopped in at the Canby NAPA machine.shop on my way home tonight. They were working on my head. It was just coming out from being cleaned. One of the guys was working on my valves, doing a valve grind. He gave me one of the old brass intake valve seats,& showed me how hammered out the seat was. They're putting in new steel valve seats,so the head probably won't be.ready until monday. I'm getting anxious to get to work on reassembly,& installing it into the 521. I want to have it running, driving ,& lowered in time for the Canby show. I may need some help getting all the suspension stuff done, but I already have most of the parts. I still need shocks,& all the brake & clutch hydralic parts that I'm going to replace. Still looking into swapping in a 620 power booster & dual circuit master cylinder. Here's a pic of that valve seat. I couldn't take any pics at the machine shop ,because my phone battery was too low. Hopefully next visit.
