  1. Just picked up that 86 with a matching 240z My desk at.work
  2. Ya, I go to the supercrosses down here in Cali and you see the people pounding like 20 beers and then drive home. You can try the local body shops and see if a vehicle matching this description came in. If he lives locally It could be your best shot. Good luck man.
  3. I'll try and add a serious comment to this. Why Datsun? I was raised in one. Growing up, my dad had a 620 pickup. Due to the obvious small size, my dad rigged up some secure child seats in the bed with a sealed shell (I was like 2 or 3 at the time). I thought the truck was cool, even as a very small child. Over the years we've had a 710, 2 Z's and I've been rocking a 240sx as well. Plus owning a '72 allows my to give the finger to the California smog Nazis.
  4. I live in the Santa Barbara area so I won't be down Friday. If I can source one sooner I'll post up. Pshhhh, if you can get it off... Come down with some rare form of 1 day tuberculosis so you can call in sick. Car shows are more important than work right? ;)
  5. Radim, you going to the west coast z nationals? If so, maybe I can meet you there and pick it up. I'll be at the car show on sunday. I'll see if anything pans out mean time as well though. Posted as I'm watcing wangan midnight :D
  6. (.)(.) :) Because owning a '72 datto is allowing me to give the finger to.the smog Nazis with style.
  7. Purchased the part from Radim last night. Thanks man, made it easy.

    Roadblocks

Well, currently in the process of my swap as I had the L20b delivered Friday. One little stall however. The long block I ordered didn't come with the timing.chain cover. And the L18 faceplate I have is about an inch too short. Now I have to source one. If anyone out there has a source for me, please point me in its direction. Thanks!

    just given a 521

Looks pretty straight from that shot. Interestingly it has a 5 lug conversion. Does it have disc breaks?
  11. Thats awesome. I sometimes feel the 521 is a bit of the red headed step child of the datto world. Unfortunately I wont be there. Fortunately out here in cali, we have the datsun roadster show in solvang and the Z coast nationals are the same weekend.
  12. Thats handy cause the current semi broken motor is an l18. And I'm well aware that the perfermance gains will be minimal at best with the performance headers being as this is anstock motor. My reasoning would be 90% aethstetic. The fitment issues are troubling at the worst for me. I've dealt with worse. Honestly, my biggest concern would be the possibility of losing some torque. And I do want to thank you guys for your feedback.
  13. So the L20 is taller... Will that be an issue for the fit of the stock manifold?
  14. When you have to explain what the 'dot-soon' shirt your wearing is for to the kid working at McDonalds. Seriously, had no clue what datsun was. When you correct people when they say Datsun went out of business and nissan bought them out. I get that one all the fucking time. Seriously annoys me.
  15. Is the back pressure that low on them?? ...Wow thats dissapointing. I wanted to do it for looks more than performance honestly. But these don't have enough torque as it is. Losing any would suck. Either way which one would I need If I decide to go this direction? I'm not sure if one is direct bolt on and the other isn't.
  16. Hey all. Just picked up a rebuilt l20b that I'll be swapping in my truck. I'll take some pics when it gets into full swing. I'm thinking about picking up some performance headers. I'm seeing short and long headers and I'm not sure what I need. I've done some reading and the swap looks like it'll be a cake walk. Are there any real differences I'll need to watch out for?
  17. When all your.shirts have a tear in a very specific location due to sharp potruding peices of trim.

    FML

Well, this is now the end of a long night. With my new job I'm now getting off at midnight. They have us working 2 people on one computer because the program we use is 15 grand a computer. When I go to leave, Apperantly my fuel pump decided to die (I'm thinking) and I couldn't get it started. My Dad decided to come and help for a spell and determined the same thing. I now work about 5 minutes from my house, so he figured we could just tow it. We did it tonight to avoid traffic, which I still gather was a good idea. We started by coming home and grabbing the toe bar. For those that don't know what this is, it's an old device that grabs on to you're bumper and pulls it. It only works on old metal bumper cars. Being overdocious on the safety side we run a couple of chains, this was our mistake. The damned chains bound a little bit crushing my bumper in. From there we just old fashion chained them together, my Dad in his truck and me in mine and drug the lil thing home. My Dad thinks we can just pound it out, but I have my doubts. The bumper was allready fairly tweeked before so I'm not to crushed, but it has been a long fucking night. Pics in the morning...
  19. Either that or it's painted that lovely rust color.
  20. dont go with the 6 speed. they are notoriously week. the 5 speed is much more rugged and reliablejust a heads up on that. and before, i thought you were considering the 18r for a xwap. my bad
  21. Again, the motor is as old as the one you are already working with. Also, it's around the same size as your currnet motor, the largest gen 1 celica motor is the 20r which is only a 2 liter. most likely it's an 18r or 19r, a bit more common in the states from what I've read. Still SOHC still carbureted. You're looking at a hell of a lot of work for little to no gain. The motors you might be thinking of is the later 22RL which is a tough motor, but not powerful. But when I say tough, I mean you can practically do anything to the damn thing and it'll keep on going. Honestly one of the most reliable motors ever made.
  22. I've seen stock KA's boosted to 15 and they were decently reliable, but it's a hell of a risk. I agree with the 7-8 number. It's well within it's capabilities and will get you a fair amound of horse power.
