How in $%#@ do I remove the 5 spd striking lever???
Seeker > 620 KC replied to Seeker > 620 KC's topic in Drivetrain
There is no cotter pin like on a ball joint. Do you mean the threaded lock pin? The reversed mech is out. I was blocking the shaft against the case with a piece of wood to prevent bending it. Then I left the nut on the end of the bolt and was whacking that with a brass punch. Seriously difficult to balance the case against a block of wood, then back block the shaft. Afraid to whack it too hard for fear of bending the shaft or cracking the case? Might need another set of hands and a steel punch? -
I sold a couple frames to RuckyCharms at Eagle Rock. He offered me lots of histroy & value info and pics how to identify plates from reproductions before the meet. In the end he gave me a cash offer and trade options. He was so easy to deal with I had a hard time deciding what offer to accept! If I find more frames I don't want I'll be looking for Rucky again.

How in $%#@ do I remove the 5 spd striking lever???
Seeker > 620 KC replied to Seeker > 620 KC's topic in Drivetrain
Hmmm. I tried blocking the shaft and using the opening for my punch to go thru, but I couldn't stablize it all. I wish the shaft were attached at both ends to anchor it more. Levering? I don't suppose you'd have an old picture of how you managed that? -
I have a rear transmission housing removed from an original 79 Datsun 620 pickup truck 5 spd transmission. I’m trying to remove the striking lever from the striking rod in order to replace the seal and O ring. This lever is the only thing keeping me from removing the rod. The nut and washers can be easily removed but I’m not having any luck getting the threaded lock pin out. I’m guessing it is either pressed in or it has a flat spot in it the shaft that has stuck with age. I’ve tried squeezing it out with channel locks, hitting it with a hammer and so on. I left it at a transmission shop to look at. They were clueless. But instead of saying so, they said they wanted to drill through the case and then drill out the pin, thus leaving me without a lock pin…to the tune of $95! I went and picked it up before they could! Anybody have an easier less damaging way to remove this???

There is a black 80 nissan 720 in the Oceanside CA Ecology yard that has a 5 speed that should go tright into a 78-79 620! Regular price is $ 130 The tail gate still says Datsun, but body is 720 and has been pretty picked over. But the motor and trans is still in it with the shifter. I could hit all 5 gears & reverse. See VIN tag has MFGR Date of 8/79, but it is the 720 body style. It looked original like the motor and trans had not been switched. If I were to buy it I would confirm the frame number to confirm the two VIN tags before doing so.

Datsun Nippon Eagle Rock swap meet Nov 11 2012 Sunday
Seeker > 620 KC replied to the510keeper's topic in Events
Rucky, I recognized your truck from the pic you sent me before going to the swap meet and actually meeting you for the first time. I was on a fast paced trek to the port-o-head from my selling space (there alone) and recognized your truck parked in the lane. They were shuffling cars in and out of the rows while I jokey-ed inbetween trying to find relief and return to my space before my stuff walked away. I wish I had met you before-hand put a face to your name, and found out you were also there alone too. That way I could have said something to the $#! guy in the "Ecuador" or "Salvador" jacket who was casually leaning on your truck waiting for the cars to shuffle. What a disrespectful jerk! At the time I didn't know he wasn't you, or someone there with you. Seeker -

So from the supplied photo I'm getting... The Fan Shroud of Tourin(g) may have kept the first bush of Eden from smoking? So sacrilgious! Love it. (side note, my fishing guru claims the giant white seabass always bite when he plays Dark Side of the Moon while fishing the grey light at daybreak!)

Seeker > 620 KC replied to Dawa's topic in Datsun Parts Wanted
Rats! Wrong again? And I didn't check the engine size or take a photo either. My bad. Sorry. I swear this one had the newer 720 body style (not the bullet side) and thought for sure I read the tag as having one digit before the year 79. I'll check it again next Saturday and take pics. Damn aging eyes. -

As of this A.M.I just noticed there is a black 720 2WD (Datsun on tailgate) with 5 speed still intact in the Oceanside (north San Diego County) Ecology wrecking yard. It has already been there for 3-4 weeks. Could get pulled out soon. The door tag says 7 or 8/79. Shifter is still in it. I was able to shift it in/out of gears. I asked at the cashier, regular price is $130. I'm certain...but I think the rest of the drive line & cross member was still in it too. -
