68Datsun510
Hello folks, I am a new member here, I was referred to you guys for your knowledge of swapability in the Dat-San truck world by a member of the 510 Bluebirds email list. In the coming days I am probably going to be picking up a used 95 nissan hardbody pickup. Its a single cab short bed 2wd model, KA24E and 5 speed. I read on some forums (which have no user support) that the trucks still use the H190's with 3.73:1 gears. That being said, for a little more grunt could one not just swap in a 3rd member from a 4wd 720? 4.375:1? Eventually plan on building a tow bar for the 510 and low gears would help me thinks... Or is that too far of a change that will kill the overdrive? I believe the trans has the same gears as the 240SX trans??? Anyway, WAY ot being about a hardbody and all, but nissan related and in the end will help me build my 510! Thanks in advance! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'84 and up 4X4 720s use the C200 rear end with 4.11. You would want '80-'83.5 for the 4.375s. Also the driveshaft pinion yoke will need changing. Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
Bah, knew it wouldnt be as easy as I hoped. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 2wd Hardbodys had H-190A rears. All towing should be done in 4th gear anyway, 5th is for steady cruise light throttle. Edited January 19, 2009 by datzenmike Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
What truck are you swapping the engine in? If it's a datto truck I'm sure the gears are low enough as it is. I have the KA in my 620 and would love to have taller gears, it sucks on the freeway IMO. I have a 78 I think that is 4.33s?? Or is it 4.11's? Either way it sucks. What are your plans with the tranny? It's easier to run the Nap Z trans than make the KA trans fit, tranny mount, driveline shortening, shifter tunnel, speedo cable..... There's more to think about thats just the begging :D Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'78 was 4.375 and '79 automatic. '79 standard was 4.11. Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
I was asking if using the higher numerical gears from a early 4wd 720 H190 (4.375) would help a hardbody 4cyl 2wd tow easier, and yes, 5th gear while towing is a BAD idea lol... Quote Link to comment
