Gearing options???

Hello folks, I am a new member here, I was referred to you guys for your knowledge of swapability in the Dat-San truck world by a member of the 510 Bluebirds email list.

In the coming days I am probably going to be picking up a used

95 nissan hardbody pickup. Its a single cab short bed 2wd model, KA24E and 5 speed.

I read on some forums (which have no user support) that the trucks still use

the H190's with 3.73:1 gears. That being said, for a little more grunt could

one not just swap in a 3rd member from a 4wd 720? 4.375:1? Eventually plan

on building a tow bar for the 510 and low gears would help me thinks...

Or is that too far of a change that will kill the overdrive? I believe the trans

has the same gears as the 240SX trans???

Anyway, WAY ot being about a hardbody and all, but nissan related and in the end will help me build my 510!

Thanks in advance!

What truck are you swapping the engine in? If it's a datto truck I'm sure the gears are low enough as it is. I have the KA in my 620 and would love to have taller gears, it sucks on the freeway IMO. I have a 78 I think that is 4.33s?? Or is it 4.11's? Either way it sucks.

What are your plans with the tranny? It's easier to run the Nap Z trans than make the KA trans fit, tranny mount, driveline shortening, shifter tunnel, speedo cable.....

There's more to think about thats just the begging :D
