HRH
Just had fun replacing a tie rod, which is easy and painless but for those of you who haven't done 8 million of them, here's a video I made of the proper technique for removal which will save you lots of time an effort. No joke, I once spent 2 hours replacing the right side balljoints on my previous 620 pickup because I didn't realize hitting from the top did nothing. That was about 11 years ago when I was just getting into mechanicing. :D Good times. http://www.mattalbertson.net/tierodends.wmv 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Cool vid. Great job! I usually leave the nut on to protect the threads when I miss.....especially if you are putting the same rod back in.....such as pulling it to work on something else. I've had good luck using a smaller ball peen hammer. I swing it hard and fast and it doesn't seem to leave any big dents. I also can't hardly swing the big one! :( I've seen the technique explained on here before, but video is much more effective!!!! Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
That's how I do it, cept I use both hands to swing the hammer :D Quote Link to comment
HRH
Yeah, I was going to do that but was holding the camera at the same time. Kinda hard unless you have three hands. :D Quote Link to comment
