Doomedwalker
My starter died for the 3thrd time in the last 2 years so ripped out the engine, to swap in a Manual transmission engine from an 1985 Nissan 720, my truck is a 1984 Nissan 720. https://imgur.com/a/QJDAhG8 https://imgur.com/LjEY9FI https://imgur.com/oMT9G9j https://imgur.com/undefined https://imgur.com/WCYEoTR https://imgur.com/MVpxewS https://imgur.com/nRJ2vg8 https://imgur.com/DXpzAl5 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Failed starter so you change the engine???? How does that work? Everything remains the same. Rebuilt starters are very poor quality and you don't get much for under $100 these days. Have it rebuilt professionally. Get an original used one from a wrecking yard. Get one with a lifetime guarantee... they still fail but you only buy them once. Spend $200 plus on a good one. Is there something wrong with your engine that makes it hard to start? Long cranking times are not good for starters. Poor battery and low voltage/current is not good for them either. The manual transmission engine will need the pilot converter and the flex plate from the old engine. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
You mentioned bad starter why change the engine? Do you have the pedal box? master and slave? and the hard line? 5 speeds for the 720 came in two lengths. Does it match the old automatic length? Looks like 31.5" On your automatic there is a vacuum line from the modulator valve the the intake where the brake booster vacuum line connects. Be sure to seal that off. Quote Link to comment
NC85ST
You ARE going to install the starter before you put the engine in, right? Your truck was originally an automatic? Hope you grabbed the clutch and brake pedals, as well as the hard line for the clutch master cylinder, from the truck you got the engine from. They make the conversion a lot easier. Also you’ll want the front half of the driveshaft from the donor truck. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If the five speed and the automatic are the same length you won't need to change the driveshaft. Quote Link to comment

NC85ST
Yes, you will need the front half of the driveshaft. The length of the automatic and the long manual transmission are different, close but different. I’ve done this conversion and thought I could get away with just changing the yoke but there is a couple of inches difference between the two driveshafts. 1 Quote Link to comment
