1984 Nissan 720, 4x4 29 spline C200 locker...?!

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I have come across plenty of topics about lockers. I recently found myself needing a carrier for my C200 axle, and due to the need. I purchased a ARB RD202, and have recently installed it into the axle. In the locker manual, it gives steps for the use of 10mm ring gear bolts.(The locker has 12mm holes for the ring gear.) I also had to modify the pinion gear.(Also in the manual)  I couldn't find the topics to comment directly on them. So this was the next best option.

Correct. The dimensions given are:   "When used with 10mm ring gear bolts, adapter sleeves of the following size are required: Outside: Ø12.15mm [0.478”] Inside: Ø10.45mm [0.411”] Length: 10mm [0.39”]"   Shim/sleeves are Not included with the locker

Ok, thanks. I've had to do both mods before and as long as you used red loctite on the carrier bolts, it should never be a problem. The RD202 must be shared with another diff, or maybe there is a year cutoff for the different bolt sizes.

One issue we have had, and this is odd - when you smack your pinion flange on a rock, this can sometimes knock the pinion crush out of whack. Presumably it's a momentary bending of the pinion gear, which is scary. If you use a solid pinion spacer with shims, the problem doesn't ever show up.  Did you use a solid spacer?
