None_zero
But... when setting the first cylinder to top dead center. Are there points where the piston will be in the uppermost position that are not the "compression stroke"? Quote Link to comment
Ooph!
Not dumb. Yes, it occurs twice per revolution. Top dead center for timing the engine is when both intake and exhaust valves are closed and the piston is at the top, it is also at the top when the exhaust valve closes and the intake valve opens. On the web there are videos that will give a clear picture of how the combustion cycle works. Edited February 13, 2023 by Ooph! 1 Quote Link to comment
paradime
The piston will also be in the uppermost position at the end of the exhaust stock. "TDC" as the point of ignition happens once per 4 strokes over two revolutions. Take the valve cover off. Facing the front of the engine, set the timing mark on the pull at the first mark on the left. Look at the cam lobes of the first cylinder. If they're pointing inward, you're at TDC. If not rotate the crank 360 and you're at TDC. 1 Quote Link to comment
