BlickSix20
Sooo I’m looking into my options to fix a King Cab 84 720. Do I rebuild the current engine (blower head gasket) automatic transmission with Or do I go straight for a KA24 swap manual transmission ?? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If it's money and you do the work yourself the head gasket fix is about $30. If you can't change a head gasket, forget about going any farther and get into an engine swap. If not about money, the KA swap is the cost of used KA* and 5 speed, shorten driveshaft, buy ]2eDeYes engine/transmission mounts, high pressure fuel pump. The rest is installing and sorting out the electrical. Keep in mind that buying a used engine can be a crap shoot. Best if you can drive the vehicle to see how well it runs, get a compression test etc. or look to rebuilding it. Either way start with it being at least a couple of thousand and likely much more than that. *Car S13/14 KAs EFI wiring harnesses are separate from the rest of the wiring harness, so it's much easier to remove and sort out. If not interested in keeping the EFI, get a truck engine. It has a carburetor like intake that the throttle body can be removed and an aluminum plate put on with a bolt pattern for a 32/36 or w/e carburetor you like. Take the KS's CAS out and fit and earlier L20B EI distributor and away you go. Works with the stock fuel pump Almost looks like a 4bbl will fit right on there Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Yep, depends on your budget and schedule. You will need more of both if you get into a swap. Quote Link to comment
