720 KC engine dilemma ?!?!

Sooo I’m looking into my options to fix a King Cab 84 720. Do I rebuild the current engine (blower head gasket) automatic transmission with Or do I go straight for a KA24 swap manual transmission ??

If it's money and you do the work yourself the head gasket fix is about $30. If you can't change a head gasket, forget about going any farther and get into an engine swap.

 

If not about money, the KA swap is the cost of used KA* and 5 speed, shorten driveshaft, buy ]2eDeYes engine/transmission mounts, high pressure fuel pump. The rest is installing and sorting out the electrical. Keep in mind that buying a used engine can be a crap shoot. Best if you can drive the vehicle to see how well it runs, get a compression test etc. or look to rebuilding it. Either way start with it being at least a couple of thousand and likely much more than that. 

 

*Car S13/14 KAs EFI wiring harnesses are separate from the rest of the wiring harness, so it's much easier to remove and sort out. If not interested in keeping the EFI, get a truck engine. It has a carburetor like intake that the throttle body can be removed and an aluminum plate put on with a bolt pattern for a 32/36 or w/e carburetor you like. Take the KS's CAS out and fit and earlier L20B EI distributor and away you go. Works with the stock fuel pump

Yep, depends on your budget and schedule. You will need more of both if you get into a swap.
