Seat belt warning timer question

Had the bench seat out of my 86.5 720 and noticed that the wires to the DS seatbelt latch were broken. I am going to reconnect them because undiagnosed mild OCD won't let me not repair them. 

 

I am not sure how the seatbelt warning sytem works. I gather it's on a timer but when does the warning come on? Does the engine have to be running and/or in gear? How long does it take for the warning light to come on?

The driver's seat belt switch, when in, use defeats the timer preventing the warning light. If not closed when the ignition switch is in the ON or START position, the warning lamp lights and when the timer times out the light shuts off.

Is there are noise involved or is it just the dash light?

Just a warning light that times out.

I replaced the seats in my 1200 and added a digital timer to control the seat belt warning light. I feel your pain. Glad you were able to get it working.
