NoMoneyZ
I have a 77 Datsun 620 pickup that has been sitting for about 8 years and I'm tearing into it now. It has the original 4 speed trans in it. My question is how hard is it going to be to get this transmission functioning. Quote Link to comment

ppeters914
Yeah, it's been sitting, but did it work when parked? Change the fluid for sure, then let us know once you start/try driving it. Quote Link to comment
b210in
my b210 sat almost 20 years, i rebuilt the engine and just changed the fluid in the manual tranny, runs perfect, no noises and no leaks so far. i have put about 3k miles on the car since the resurection. Quote Link to comment
NoMoneyZ
Ok, good to know. I'll just swap the fluid and do a gasket and let her rip. Thanks Quote Link to comment

mike
Skip the gasket unless it obviously leaks, put clean fluid it and drive it, dont use synthetic or itll leak for sure. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No gaskets. Use a 1/2 ratchet and remove the bottom bung and drain. Inspect the bung. it has a magnet on it to collect metal particles. It's normal to have a black paste on it. Wipe clean so next time you have something to compare to. Replace bung and fill through the other bung about half way up the left side. Have someone pore the oil down a length of garden hose from the engine compartment or down past the shifter boot. Fill till it pores out the hole and put the bung back in. 90W is fine, synthetic is so slippery it may drip out past the worn output seal by the driveshaft. The seal is about $5 and easy to put in, but you have to take the drive shaft out first. Quote Link to comment
