Variable speed windshield wiper switch?

I pulled this out of a '76 620 ten years ago. I thought it was a variable speed wiper switch. Is that what this is?

Dash light dimmer, hence the light bulb. Later ones were solid state, those use a rheostat and hot hot hence the perforated shield.

Aww too bad. My dash light are already too dim. You think if I hooked up this switch it would make them brighter again? haha

Stock bulbs are just dim. You could swap them out for brighter leds

You would need a dash brightner knob... lol. The cruel reality is that the dash lights are way tooooo dim as they are. I think all Datsuns are. At night I can't read the odometer in my 710 and can't really read the speedometer numbers and just go by it's needle position. North American DOT rules say all dash lights must be dim-able, so Nissan stuck a dimmer in even though no one ever uses it.

 

I bought a dozen LED lights from Amazon.
