The earth's rotational speed at that latitude is eastward at 666 MPH, a little faster than the speed of a passenger jet. The moon is also orbiting the same direction at 2335 MPH so - 666 is 1,569 MPH. This is roughly how fast the shadow approaches. Roughly the top speed of an F15. Quote Link to comment
