Stoffregen Motorsports
People need to understand that unless it is a specialty fastener, most torque specs are largely universal. Next time anyone as a bolt torque question, all they need to do is search Google for torque spec chart. Know what size the bolt is and what grade it is. That's all. BTW - a bolt that takes a 6mm wrench is not a 6mm bolt. Thread size is how fasteners are measured. Almost all bolt heads have marks in them to determine what grade they are. Here, I'll do the hard part for you - https://www.imperialsupplies.com/pdf/A_FastenerTorqueCharts.pdf 1 Quote Link to comment
bottomwatcher
How about cast iron VS aluminum for torque specs. I never do anything other than manufacturers recommendations buts that's just me. It seems if I try to do anything other than factory I F it up! 2 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
You have to assume that all parts of the system are in good condition. If they are not, then you may have to go to plan B. In the case of aluminum cylinder heads and manifold mounting, you are right. The soft aluminum threads wear over years of removal and re-installation. That's a good place to convert from bolts to studs. Studs can be run in until they stop, which helps tighten the connection, and then the tightening of the nut has no affect on the aluminum threads anymore. Unless they are totally wasted.
