how do i lower a 85 720 step by step

i need help so i bought 4" drop blocks i need to know which torsion bar screw do i loosen so the front will lower evenly with my set of drop blocks & where is the screw located in the front of the bar or in the back of the bar...also how much should i loosen it to make my ride drop evenly with my 4" drop blocks so it will look flushed

 

im new at this, this will be my first attempt towards lowering a truck...am i in the right direction at all towards dropping my truck ?

You will need to index the bars to match a 4 inch lift.

 

 

You will also need to shim the carrier bearing of the drive line to prevent NVH.

Don't expect to get spoon fed here.

 

There is only one torsion bar bolt for each torsion bar.

 

No one can tell you how much to change it. We have no idea how fatigued your bars are nor do we know what look you are going for. It's going to take a few trials and errors to get it right. There is a video around of doing torsion bars on a different datsun truck. It's virtually identical to the 720.

 

You will likely have to cut your bump stops, possibly get shorter shocks or extend shock mounts, and possibly mess with the upper control arms to control excessive camber.

Expect the front alignment to be way out when altering the height, it ALWAYS changes. Mostly tow-in but camber will also change. This will grind the tires away and adversely affect handling. Too low will ride like shit also as there is no suspension travel left to absorb road bumps. You will essentially be riding on bouncy beach ball tires. Drop spindles are a better idea.

Body drop by age....

 

20 and under.......... 5"

21-24...................... 4"

25-28...................... 3"

29 and older........... fuck this shitty ride I want my truck back.

Sayin' shitty ride is not noticed by the young as much (possibly young at heart too) Some of the alignment problems can be adjusted out but not a lot. You can lower and still have a good ride if done right. Don't go by others as it's is all subjective. You'll know when you have gone too low.... or in 10 years.  

 

If too low there is no room left for suspension movement. If no movement, the shock absorber can't do it's job. What's left, is the air in the tires.
