Droski
The carb has a spacer. But it looks like it just bolts right one. Could it be the original one from the 66? Quote Link to comment
wayno
The truck jerks and loses power Like it wants to go but it hesitates then goes. The engine never shuts off. The gas in the carb leaks when pumping the gas peddle I found that out today without having the engine on. 4 pumps and it begins to leak. That is when it is not running, it likely doesn't leak like that when it is running. Is the fuel level on the line on the glass, or does it have a line? Quote Link to comment
Droski
Found an exploded diagram on the web it's identical to mine. It's for a J13 exc. LTU from May 68 to Jun 69. I guess it fits on the 66 all the way up to 72 maybe. Quote Link to comment

You likely have a J13 as that is the type of intake manifold you have, I don't know the availability of the J13 Nikki carb rebuild kits. If you pull the choke on does it hesitate? Droski
Fuel level is on the line. I gave it 25 pumps and immediately gas started basically pouring out from the throttle shaft and the fuel level decreased dramitically enough to give the truck a rough start like it had just ran out of gas (same symptoms as when it's running and chokes up when I'm hitting the throttle). Either way I need to be able to pump my gas pedal without losing any gas through the throttle shaft. This also explains why I have been getting shitty gas mileage lately! Quote Link to comment
Droski
Nice clean carb Keith mine looks exactly like yours but not as pretty :( Quote Link to comment
Droski
Yes so this carb will only fit J1300 engine 66 to 69 perfect thanks wayno Quote Link to comment

wayno
Man those are cool maybe when the budget allows it. What do you have going on there if you don't mind me asking? I like the bottom setup On another note the truck diesels pretty often after shutting it off especially if I've been heavy on the pedal. It's always done this. Is it something to worry about. It almost seems like it just burning a little left over fuel. The dieseling doesn't last long at all. It's not good to let it diesel, you should put it in gear and let out the clutch as you turn off the key. That is MGB stuff, basically the same engine as the J13. Quote Link to comment
Droski
Keith I looked into the link and I believe that kit is for a hitachi. I have Nikki will this work? I'm assuming yes since your car is exactly like mine at first glance Quote Link to comment
zed1
Royze was the source of the kit, and the rebuild service. Quote Link to comment
Droski
Oh okay so there's a trick to keep it from dieseling. I learned a lot today thanks ! Quote Link to comment
Droski
Thanks for pointing me in the right directions Keith. Do you mind me asking how much they charged you for the rebuild? I will get in contact with them and purchase the kit if they have it Quote Link to comment
zed1
Kit was about $30 Labor was about $150 Quote Link to comment
Droski
That's not bad. Thanks again everybody for the info. I'll check back with updates. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The truck jerks and loses power Like it wants to go but it hesitates then goes. The engine never shuts off. The gas in the carb leaks when pumping the gas peddle I found that out today without having the engine on. 4 pumps and it begins to leak. Have you replaced the fuel filter? When you pump the gas the accelerator pump squirts raw gas into the primary barrel. (or should) this gas will wet the throttle plate and if the throttle shaft is worn it might wet the outside as shown. 1 Quote Link to comment
Droski
Yes I replaced the the filter already fuel seems to be traveling okay. Should the fuel filter be packed with gas? I see it about half to 3/4 full most of the time. Quote Link to comment
Droski
Can I rebuild kit help with a worn shaft? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Air in filter is normal. Rebuild kit won't fix the shaft. Not much air can get in and if it did only affects idle, if at all. I'd be more concerned with the throttle plate rubbing and sticking in the bore. Quote Link to comment
Droski
This problem has been solved! . I had to replace my distributor ! Truck runs like a charm now 2 Quote Link to comment
