takeatoke
Just looking for some opinions here. Like the title says i have a 79 620 King Cab. I have had it for about 2 almost 3 years. Right now the cab and bed are sitting in my basement, and the chassis in the garage waiting to be sand blasted. I have browsed around the forums for a couple weeks and got some ideas. Just wanting to ask some "experience" what should i do first? ( other than the motor Thats covered:D:D) Should i go ahead and replace the everything on the chassis ,lowering, suspension parts or what ever just shoot me some ideas on what you would do if your cab and bed where sitting beside your truck?? Thanks Jason Quote Link to comment
yello620
What are your plans for the truck? Plan to lower it? How far? Lift it? If i was working with a frame, I would start with getting the carrier bearing crossmember so that it does not hang below the main frame rails, I would also trim up the mounting tabs that are on the frame at the transmission crossmember. I would also make the necessary mods to make the exhaust tuck inside the frame rails and not way below the rails like factory. Jason Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
Do whatever makes thing easier... sorry for the simple answer, but its really that simple. If you're going to static drop it, lower it after its back together, if your gonna bag it or do 4 link or anything that requires cutting, grinding, welding, etc., do it with the body and bed off... do all your brake work before reassembling it too, easier when its more accessible. Certainly do the ball joints, and bushings before the body goes back on. Can't really tell you what to do about the drivetrain... since you didn't tell us what it is your doing with it... but if it doesn't require modifications to the body, install it while the body is off. Since you've gone through the trouble of pulling the body off already, make the thing BETTER than new. Thats about all I can think of at the moment... but theres PLENTY you can do... ]2eDeYe
What these guys said ^ Figure out what you want from your truck and make a plan. Replace all the soft parts; bushings, grommets, etc. Quote Link to comment

I not doing frame off but front end replacement. Its better to replace all new at one time then to do it one at a time. Larry Edited October 22, 2008 by Farmer Quote Link to comment

I would really like to use Fineline's Setup http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=1262 but im going to read some more would like to know some pros and cons for both air bags and the coilover setup. Prolly be adding about 60 to 80 hp more to the l20b maybe more. 280zx 5 speed dont know about rear-end yet. Does anyone have the specs on the disc brake brackets,I can make about anything @ work if it is metal or aluminum. and do i need to upgrade my front disc brakes or will those be ok?? I really havent had time to sink my teeth into this forum yet so please forgive if this has been asked a million times:o Quote Link to comment

I really havent had time to sink my teeth into this forum yet so please forgive if this has been asked a million times:o I think that the caliper design of the 78/79 620 trucks really sucks, and there are far superior factory parts that can be bolted on in place of the 79 crap. Consider installing Nissan Hardbody D21 drop spindles and brakes from a V-6 truck. You get 2 inch drop, larger vented rotors, superior design caliper and dual pistons per caliper. Sorry, no forgiving if you havent used the seach function. Quote Link to comment
