dukerollo
Yay, more A10s! I look forward to seeing some creative ideas. I say banded steelies all day. It's something I've often considered doing. The 6 headlights would be crazy. I think it all could be made to work out with the right stance. 2 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
Mark is the person I will meet in Bullhead City and have breakfast with. I have several parts that I am taking to him. He is very creative. 1 Quote Link to comment

LTJ
@dukerollo's thread on his B310 reminded me that I was thinking about putting some louvres or vents in the hood, it suddenly occurred to me that I have some ready made Datsun vents on the donor car! Not sure they suit the direction I am heading but it gave me something to think about while finalising the fit on the visor. Got it all trimmed and tacked, then back on for a test fit: Achieved the look I wanted, retro but understated, if I did it again I would probably have left it 1/2" longer, but I am happy with it as it sits. Pulled it back off to finish the welding now that I knew it fit properly, hit it with some primer to protect it until I am sure there are no changes I want to make: Fitted it back up, this time with the stainless bolts and locknuts: Still some finishing off and bodywork to do before final paint, but I wanted to test it out on the highway first. Took it for a run up to 100kph (62mph) and discovered that it was catching so much air that a rust hole in the front lip right in the middle started to crack and allow the whole piece to balloon upwards slightly, I think it will be fine once I repair the crack and add a little bracing behind the front lip, but I also had another idea, and once I tried it I am pretty sure it will happen: Perfect finishing touch! Ties it to the car design nicely and will help with the pressure build-up too! 3 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
R & D is always needed when building something from scratch. That visor looks sweet! 1 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
Very nicely done. I'm sad that you bailed on the datsun lettering on it though. Would have been great :) 2 Quote Link to comment

Would have been great :) Yeah, I wanted to, but I think the vents will look better. Your not a fan of the lettering up the side of the hood? I would leave the letters body color though, not blacked out. 1 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Dropped the roofrack back on, I think it suits the car better now with the visor on there. 2 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
I just realised what it is about the back quarters on the A10's that bugs me, it is those plastic vents/fuel door things... Anyone else think they would look better with a welded in steel vent on the vent side and a pop open steel fuel door on the other? Standard: Possible vent change: 1 Quote Link to comment
dukerollo
I don't think it would hurt. I think the ass end is a little stumpy looking. Maybe a small duckbill spoiler or something would give it more visual length. 2 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Did a bit of work to the visor tonight, started by moving the mounts back 1/2" and removing some steel to add a little window out sideways, then started adding a strip of steel behind the front lip and joined to the top crease to make a triangular gap: Then welded a length of 5mm rod along the front to make a nice finish area: It should come up good with some seam sealer, some primer and some high fill... Decided to try make a steel vent for the Stanza, thought I was being smart tacking the pieces to these pieces of angle to hold it all together: But it warped like crazy! trying to weld 0.6mm steel with 0.8mm wire is a nightmare as always... It doesn't look too bad in this pic, but it looks bad in real life: Decided I needed to give it some support along with some mass to draw the heat away, so next attempt I did this on the back: As you can see I did 5 vents, not sure I will want all 5, but easier to do an extra now and cut it off than trying to add one later! Result was much better this time, a little clean up and this will look great! Had to try it on the car: 4 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Remember those louvers will let in a lot of rain and car wash water. Be sure the is a drain in there and it is a large one. 1 Quote Link to comment

Been thinking about that, was thinking that I would make the lowest vent flush with the bottom of the cavity, so any water in there will want to run straight out, I may even have to cut the lowest vent from the vent set to weld it in first and weld it right along the bottom. Do you think that would be enough or still add a drain? 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
You could build a "drain" right on to the back of your vents. A U shape welded behind the vents with a bend at the bottom so water that gets in pours straight out the bottom vent. Leave the top of the U shape open so it still acts like a vent for the interior. 2 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
Not sure what your weather is like but at least weld in a baffle so it can not just go into the interior through the vent. 1 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Not sure what you weather is like but at least weld in a baffle so it can not just go into the interior through the vent. Very smart thinking, will definitely do that if there is not already one in there. Some of you may have noticed that I had some of my vents under the windscreen taped up in earlier photos, that is because I had a leak from a rust hole inside the plenum on that side, been trying to work out the best way to fix it for a while, I could get to most of the affected area from inside the car but not all of it, and the A10 does not have an unboltable panel there like a 720 has... Today I just bit the bullet and cut a section out below the windscreen and plated the rusted area, I used 16 guage steel to give me some meat to weld to, but even so had to chase some holes around: Hit it with some Sikaflex 227 seam sealer once the primer/sealer was dry: Highly recommend the Sika 227, it is more expensive than a lot of options but it was really nice to use and I have complete confidence in it! You may be wondering why I cut the hole the shape I did, well I decided on a little customising seeing as I was already doing the work: Extra vents!: I will weld them in once the seam sealer is set tomorrow and I get a top coat over it. 2 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Sorry for the lack of updates, still chasing a rainwater leak up under the dash somewhere... Hopefully I find it soon and progress will resume! 1 Quote Link to comment
dukerollo
If it's anything like my car, the windshield seal is dry rotted to hell and letting water drip down. 2 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Brand new screen and seal and doesn't appear to be coming from there, there must be another bit of rust I missed in the plenum, I'm going to pull the dash under shelf off and get my head in there while my wife hoses the car down... 1 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Things are still happening here, fixed the leaks, turned out there was another small hole further in, I was able to fix it through the same cut out though, so all good! Will post updates soon. 2 Quote Link to comment
LTJ
Going to be more progress soon! The car has been running great, no changes to report. Spent the last three months doing a 'Muscle Bicycle Build-Off' over on www.ratrodbikes.com/forum, it finishes in a couple of days so I will have some spare time to get back on the the little Stanza! Here is what I built for the build-off: 2 Quote Link to comment
