mhub91
Wondering if the stock L28E distributor will work without an EFI setup as I have gone triple weber 45s. I've never messed with Datsun EFI before so I don't know if there is a difference between the EFI and EI distributors. Can I use the EFI distributor with the carb setup? Or do I need to use a dizzy from an EI model? Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Forgot to mention, my distributor has only 3 blue wires coming out of it. Seemed a little strange? Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Oh, and I just realized there isn't a vacuum advance on the EFI distributor. I'm thinking I should get an old points distributor and then install the Pertronix EI setup.... Would be easiest? Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
use an older dist... im pretty sure there are matchbox type 6 cylinder dists. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
I figured as much. I just Need to locate one! Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Your L28, did it use a mass air flow sensor or did it use a resistance flap air box to meter air? If it's the resistance box, then you can use the distributor you have. Early L injection used a Bosch L-jetronic based system. That system took ignition signal from the negative side of the coil, so they did not have ignition triggers in the distributor. They used whatever was already there. So, you might just be able to use what you have. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
I still wouldn't have a vac adv tho Quote Link to comment

Farmer Joe
you wont be able to use vac advance on side drafts anyways, mark. just lock out the timing in the dist, and file the holes in the advance weights to get more mechanical advance at rpm.. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
How come no vac adv? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
You have a CAS crank angle sensor 'distributor'. There is no need for a vacuum advance as the EFI uses crank position, RPM, MAF, air and water temp and other sensors to compute a spark advance. These were used on the Turbo L28s. Do not use the zx or Maxima matchbox distributors after '82 either, as they have an E12-93 matchbox module onthem. Picture below... see the two extra I and W terminals on the right side? Used on a N/A car the timing will retard as the engine revs up. I think someone said you can ground those two to delete the retard function. Otherwise get an E12-80 module for it.
