GoHaunter
Hello guys I recently bought a 78 Datsun 280z, and I'm having a some what of a problem, the engine starts but it takes a few turns of the key for the starter to turn on. But when the starter turns on the engine turns on fine. Any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Pull the small start signal wire off the starter and check the voltage on it while turning the key to the start position. It should read 12 volts but long wire runs and an old switched can reduce this to 8 or lower. This is often not enough to power the solenoid to click it in and get the starter running. Another method is to get a remote starter switch, usually a push button that is connected to the starter and used by mechanics to bump the engine over without having to climb in the gar to do so. If it starts every time this way it would point to a weak start signal also. The cure is to make a 'hot start relay'. This is a small relay that supplies 12 volts directly from the battery using the weak signal from the start wire..... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/102-hot-start-relay/ 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
see if Rockauto.com has new switches. or clean connections between the starter key switch to the starter as your getting a low voltage to the starer wire. What Mike says is a fix that I used on my 521 truck Quote Link to comment

I sell them for under $25.00 Quote Link to comment
